I haven't set steel this year for the first time is over a decade. Since NAFA folded, I can't even get rid of fur for any reasonable price so I've been sitting on it mostly. I called the buyer that used to be the NAFA rep yesterday. It was grim to say the least. He's buying some fur but very limited. He is not buying coons or eastern yotes at all. I think the market will stay dead until Russia and China get back in the picture, and who knows when that will be.

I was thinking of learning how to home tan but I really don't have the time or room to do it. I figured I could sell my tanned furs at those renaissance fairs in the summer, but then I would have to go hang out with those freaks. We trappers are in some dark days.

The beaver market is the best its been in a long while....Your red fox and grey fox are marketable.
Get out of that basement Finster! Quit waiting on the coon/coyote market.

I gave up waiting for the good old days pricing a long time ago. Had an absolute ball this year with a short line and I will sell what we caught. A focused line can still make money. That’s how I’m approaching each season from now on. Have fun. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

If I could talk the wife into operating the coconut shells, I might try those Renaissance fairs to sell tanned fur.

I get paid to trap. I'm having a great time on the line and I'm getting paid to do It. And what I get for the fur Is just a bonus.

You must be in a poor section with limited species to trap.Coyote, mink, and coon are not in demand currently, but still need to be managed if you want to keep your line healthy. Our fur has been rising slowly and steadily for a couple years now.Beaver Marten Cats Fisher and otter all steadily rising in value.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
