I never owned one. Just carry a few loose balls in a vest pocket, if "hunting", or in an open jar or something when target shooting.
There has to be a better way. Maybe an old belt mounted cell phone pouch, even with a tube, or gate on the bottom for picking a single ball at a time.
Who is the wizard on here to solve that Earth shaking problem?

Here is an Ebay special. ammo pouch.

I think it was Daisey that sold their pellet ammo in a small container that fit on your belt.

You want to try using the 1/4 ounce round lead sinkers for ammo. Much better impact than steel ones.....jk

Got a few decent suggestions here. Anything magnetic, though, I have to rule out. Not that I never use steel, but, certainly, not regularly. Drifter's suggestion is better than what I've been using, but, not that magic wand that I've been hoping for.
For the record my go to ammo is hand cast lead balls. I also use glass marbles, and frangible clay balls. I think I bagged my first canine with a lug nut

I'd go to a store that sells pet supplies. Get a training treat pouch. You can get your hand in it easily and it'll hold all the ammo you want.

That treat pouch might have some potential.
Still dreaming about a secure one handed dispenser that allow me to grab one ball at a time.
I may need to put my engineering hat back on. I'm now thinking more like a magazine than pouch

I use a coin pouch works great for me this^^^ That's what I like because the little ammo boxes are noisy and if I gotta get close I don't want anything to rattle. I carry .22 shorts for my single shot dispatch gun the same way.

Thanks for the ideas. It's starting to come to me now: Something like - a tube with an inside diameter similar to the ammo.
- an open, but, elastic restricted gravity discharge
- add a belt loop or hook, or attachment to slingshot
- length to accomodate maybe a half dozen
- simple and cheap enough to carry several at a time

would definitely work, but: - too much sloshing around
- cumbersome to access

I use a rope climbers, chalk dust bag. Again would work, and worth consideration; but probably a bit more elaborate than necessary.
