Loaded my beaver barge boat up with traps and drowning rods yesterday. Was supposed to get a couple weeks of moderate weather in the high 30s and the lows of mid 20s at night. My buddy and I went to the river ramp to launch about 9 this morning. No issue until he parked my truck and started back down the ramp to get in the boat. Fell hard on his back because the water had frozen earlier to the ramp from some duck hunters launching their boats. My launch didn’t make it any better.
He didn’t hit his head thankfully but he blacked out for a bit and was trying to get his air back. Took about 10 or so minutes to get him stood back up. We called it a day when I asked him a couple questions and he couldn’t answer them. Put the boat back on the trailer and took him home. He refused to go to the hospital to get checked over. Waited for his wife to get home from in town grocery shopping cause I didn’t want him staying by himself. Told her what had happened when she got there in about 20 minutes.
She was going to load him up and take him to the hospital but he told her he wasn’t gonna go. Called him a couple times today checking on him and he says he’s fine. Still don’t remember what happened and that’s worrying me. He’s a tough old cuss but that concrete ain’t got much give to it.
So you guys be careful on them boat ramps when the weather gets below freezing.

Good advice! I don't bounce as well as I once did and I am not being funny.

Concussion. Wife should check on him through out the night.

Drag his butt to the ER, make him swallow his pride. I understand the shrug it off but the older I get the more I'm realizing this carcass of mine is more fragile than I care to admit.

Had the same thing happen to me after launching my Jon Boat several years back. Luckily didn't do any damage except for some bruises. Happened on a cold opening morning of rat season with nobody else around. Could have been a lot worse. I was lucky.

My best friend fell and hit his head three weeks ago. He wouldn't go to the doctor either. We buried him two Saturdays ago. Make him go to the hospital.

Picked these up the other day at Bomgaars I was pleasantly shocked how great they are for only $12 they fit over my trapping boots perfectly I ran them all day in cat country zero issues. Did chores in them again no problems busted through the ice a lot along the creek they held so well I had the wife pick me up a second pair.

HD rubber very snug fit walking on them you barely feel them, so much you might wear them on the wrong floor. LOL

I have a couple older pair like that but mine have S.S. studs on the bottom. On hard ground they are a bit uncomfortable but for ice walking and such they are great and give you safety when needed. I couldn't see wearing them all day.

The solid bars across the bottom might be the difference.

He has a wife and I am guessing kids, needs to get his selfish (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) to the hospital for their sake

And if he was "out" I would bet he hit his head whether he wants to admit it or not. And if he didn't hit his head and was out there may be something a lot more serious going on with his health

Got a bag of ice melt in the truck for slippery ramps. Keeps your truck out of the drink and you on your feet.
