I’d bet Supply Center in NE would have a gear reduction box to slow it down speed wise just the torque alone would be dangerous but add uncontrolled speed and that could kill pretty easy. You can control the feed part with a no spin bar but a loose shirt/coat or like said a simple glove could do you in.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

My brother had a cone type driven by a 5 hp gas engine with gear reduction. It would split the nasty knotty stuff that would laugh at an axe or mall. It had a heavy metal frame with a 3" or 4" metal tube that the round rested on, The rpm of the cone was pretty slow and I do not remember choking the system down but a time or two. When that happened, I had to get the chainsaw to relieve the pressure and get the wood off the cone. There was no reverse.
It was a pretty slow process so I only used it on pieces that were near impossible to split with an axe or maul.

I chased the rabbit down the hole on more vids of splitters on the tube...omg some guys are absolutely crazy for building/using some of those machines! did you see the ones with a big flywheel and a wedge that comes around about every 2 seconds grab a piece of wood and line it up then shove it in this is the least dangerous looking of this variety as it is moving much slower than most of them I have seen [video:youtube] https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Bby_k9FpD6Y?feature=share[/video] but also gets the with a 4 way wedge this would go very fast with a hydraulic splitter it is very easy to split wood the issue is always when you get to a 3-4 way intersection of large limbs at the trunk I suppose you cut that burnable size slabs with the chain saw. Lol, yes I did! No thank you, about all I burn is hedge, I could see alot of things getting tore up!

Before I bought a hydraulic splitter, I split wood by hand with a Monster Maul. It's an awesome hand splitter. I don't know if they even make them anymore. But, if you're splitting by hand and can find one, buy it. You won't be sorry.
Got a gift from my brother. It was 3 AA batteries with a note that said, Gift Not Included.

I have one. All steel (head and handle). Not sure what it weighs but it's heavy. it's about the best tool for stubborn pieces.
Eh...wot?
