Pork roast and Sauerkraut with some potatoes thrown in. I add some brown sugar to sweeten the tartness a bit.

Usually do pork and sauerkraut but we're on the road today. Going to have to settle for Sheetz 2 for $1 hot dogs to keep the tradition.

Somebody in the family will make pork and sauerkraut on New Year's Day every year. It's been going on a long time.

It is German tradition brought to Pennsylvania by my people, the Pennsylvania Dutch, when they migrated here three hundred years ago.

Pork because "the pig roots forward" and sauerkraut because cabbage represents money. Fatty pork represents prosperity.

Eating poultry on New Year's Day is frowned upon by the Dutch because chickens and turkeys scratch for food backwards and also because all your luck and happiness can fly away with their feathers.

My middle daughter is having the extended family over to her house today.

Eh...wot?

I don't recall any specific New Years food tradition here. But peanut butter and jelly is always a good option!

I am German, and never heard of this. You can learn something new every day.
I bet there is many politicians eating poultry today.

I think it's going to be a gassy bunch around here tomorrow with the cabbage and kraut along with fatty pork.
I like West river rogue, Trapper7 and animals only food choices better.

I'll probably have tuna helper, and finish off a couple venison hot dogs.

My wife's the cook for today. Colombian traditional New Year's day meal is Sancocho. A hearty stew made with chunks of corn on the cob, chicken, celery, onion, plantain, potatoes, and Yuca. A side dish of avocado, Serrano chile, lime juice and cilantro to spoon into the soup when served. Traditionally cooked over an open fire in a 20 gallon pot.

Really good for hangovers.

Its gonna be a corned beef, veggies, and either biscuits or corn bred this year. It might become a yearly thing but we can practice a few times in the off season.
