Hey Gents,
My wife purchased us a hog hunt this March for Christmas. I've never hunted hogs, but I have killed a few on the farm. We were told it would be from an elevated stand over bait. My question is, once we fire a shot, will the remaining pigs scatter, regroup, and return to the bait pile? What about the following day, will the pigs return where they were shot at before if there is still bait out? We were advised the bait piles are 50-75yds from the elevated blind. How likely is it that there are several different groups of hogs visiting the bait pile in a day?

Just trying to figure things out before we go. I'm really looking forward to bringing home some bacon!

If your upcoming hunt is in an enclosure, then yes, they will return to the feed.

If free-range, then most likely they won't return after you shoot a rifle there. Some won't return there at all. Down here older hogs are much more cautious than deer and work the wind better....and use the cover of darkness.

make the first shot count , hogs are smarter than they get credit for , a very quite weapon helps with after dark capability , be lucky to see another at same spot for awhile , ask the outfitter how many hunters he has a year and odds of multiple shots at same stand , beware its 2024 there are some crooks still alive ..... good luck ..... hope it was cheap ... and dont shoot the ones with big knots on their rear end if you like the tasty ones pic a mid size junior

My rifle is not quiet by any means, but it is what I have. Told the wife I was hoping for a sow or some young ones. The outfitter told my wife there are spotlights for hunting in the dark. Do the hogs spook when the light comes on?

Not if they are used to it no.

Also, you'd be surprised how quick some Sounders come back after a rifle shot is fired. Not always, but if they do it is fairly quick.

Motion sensor lights mounted on posts or the feeder with green or red lights....work well.
