No spots for me today. I did have to put on the snowshoes to SNEAK onto the ice. One whack with the chisel easily goes through but with the snowshoes I was able to get 9 "fair" sets in. I couldn't get to where I wanted them but they have a chance. Hopefully in a few more days we will get a little more ice so I can walk on it. You must have had warmer temps there or it must have thawed more there than it did here. Or are the beavers keeping it thin? I have been trapping rats on the lake here for the past two weeks on my bicycle and have had ice up to 7 inches thick. Now the shoreline ice got sketchy for a few days but hip boots solved the issue whenever I broke through in the shallows. It's all good now. Be safe,,getting out with snowshoes is not so easy. I was falling through daily and finally pulled on Christmas. The ice up here is terrible. On the ponds I have checked, they froze and then the water dropped so the ice is hollow and has no strength. I am hoping in a few more days to be able to walk out off the houses and start to work around the feedbeds. The inch of snow we got today isn't going to help much either.
I have nothing clever to put here.

I went through once with snowshoes when it was 31 below zero and the Bob Maki bindings were so tight that the shoes did not come off. Lucky that it was shallow but I had to sit down and reach under the water to grab the heel of the snowshoe to get it to clear the ice. I had a mile walk to get back home and my pants turned into stovepipes and so did my jacket sleeves. A heavy snowfall had caused the ice to thin in a current area. Try not to do this.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

They are forecasting 3-5 inches of snow for here starting tomorrow night. That isn't going to help the ice one bit.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Scott 330 will post some pictures of some of the fur from this year, bobcat's backs and bellies shots, yes there is 6 bobcats, caught one in a coyote snare.CO has been contacted,I put it up,he'll put a cite tag on it,it will be included in the MTA Tanned fur project.I'm going to keep the one cat with the rosettes for myself, the rest will go to the tanned fur project, probably the 4 marten as well, coyotes might be spoken for already, fox, mink and weasels, might be 10 of them.Have a good rest of the afternoon everyone.Normally we have some pretty cats up here with good bellies out weighing the poor bellies, not on these cats...The big red rabbit back #100 cat is huge 51" to the base of the tail,43" are the smallest both females.

It would be the winter meeting, not the winter convention.Meeting, fur buyers DNR tagging and the Auction with the meal,Rob threw me with all the crazy people. I won't make it. There is a Gun Show Friday evening and Saturday in Brainerd so that is where I will be. I will just be with different, crazy people.

One small Beaver today but I did have 2 snare poles with the snares knocked down. That was on a 24 hour check. I saw some coyote tracks and of course the Government dogs moved everywhere last night.
