I do a similar set.I bury the traps a little better,,put a couple strips of bacon on the hay,,then set the whole thing on fire. Does the bacon come out crispy.....or chewy ?

I will see if anything happens for a few, then maybe a chunk of beaver and or bacon. I will hide it so I don't catch a bird. I should see any interest or refusals on the cam. Not many coyotes around, at least 1 though, they don't get any respect around here. Hay sets work on their own for sure.I just find a little added appeal with the camp fire set.And the meat melts down into the hay once burned so is not an exposed bait.Keep us posted.

Add some grain so the mice move in. If it is full of mice a K-9 is going to work it.

My experience with that set was always hit or miss.I've had first night catches with it,I've had refusals.I used straw because of the amount of deer around here.I always used a bait like O gormans powder river paste bait, and a good gob of it.I've never caught a wolf with it but have had them work it.

Isn’t there a mousey smelling lure you can throw on there? I thought I saw it in some catalog.. Yep, called "Just Mice" I believe. I always thought a hay set would have a ton of eye appeal with snow on the ground and would be a Bobcat magnet but I have never tried it.
I have nothing clever to put here.
