For the novice folks, don’t forget your antifreeze.

And for the experts, how does this happen?

Looks like one was bringing home the Ckn dinner and got sidetracked with another opportunity. Let you know it was there. Who has chicks this time of year around this area. I bet they are missing some or it picked up some dead ones that someone pitched out.

Ironic isn’t it, those dead chickens saved whatever had them from certain death.

Here’s a look at where they might have come from. Both locations for the broilers houses recently had birds go out so I’m pretty sure they were back in within the week.

It must not have been carrying them very tight. I wish I had a camera on it so I could see the look on its face when that snare snatched them out of its mouth. lol

You folks in those areas of the Ckn houses. I trapped Arkansas for years they had Ckn houses everywhere. Tyson and Perdue are a couple I remember. I stayed in a house for a couple years of a fella that owned a few.

Sure was an experience to see 30,000 > 50,000 day old chicks dumped in those houses to get the ball rolling. I believe my buddies Ckn houses were 110 yards long. In a few weeks they were ready to catch broilers for the market. Dusty job for those migrants.

I set up as many dump stations as I could acquire. I caught lots of coyotes, cats and skunks coming in and out of those areas. A few years after I was working there the DEP made them convert to incinerators to dispose of their Morts. No fun after they converted over.

Those places back then were like the feed lots in Kansas of today. Lots of visitors to those locations that had many years of history to them.

I worked in the chicken business at the ground level when I was a much younger man. We had 5 crews in our facility, 4 day work week. The top crew was delivering 500,000 chicks a week with neither crew delivering less than 350,000/wk.

Prior to that I was catching culled chickens in the breeder department. They had chickens going 6lbs in five weeks. They could hardly walk. That was 40+ years ago. I was young, broke and didn’t have a care in the world. Those were some great times! lol

I found a chicken along the road on one trip, must have fallen out of one the transport cages that I saw near daily going from the Ckn houses to the processing plant. I took it back to my camp and fed it until I returned home. I had that bird for almost exactly one year. Its breast got so large it couldn't walk and died a few days later.

My buddy Tim said he had markets for 3.5 # birds and 5.5 # birds. It was amazing with the type of hyped-up feed they developed that those birds were ready to catch and sell in 5-6 weeks as you state. I watched them grow from the day-old chick dump day to the catch and ship day. Interesting to see that unfold.

I saw a chick with 2 heads and many with 3-4 legs..

I remember one of the geneticist saying that most of those birds wouldn’t cover an area more than ten square feet in their time in the house. Feeder to drinker to laying down, repeat.
