Single bevel- any idea on the makers mark or vintage?

Looks like a local maker's mark. Could be anywhere USA. Could have been an owner's mark, too. Neat bevel

Broad axes should be single bevel as they function much like a large chisel for flattening a surface.

Never seen that mark before. Broad axes or hewing axes are really a neat thing with a very old history. I have had quite a few of them and they are big with collectors.

Nice one!

How wide is the blade? Look very carefully for a maker's mark on it. They sometimes are hard to see.

I heard the Wisconsin deer harvest was down this season. Not at your house! Congratulations

That's more of a hatchet than an axe. Weighs about 2 1/2 lbs.? One like that is really nice in the shop. Seems like there were quite a few made with no makers mark. That sunburst/star pattern looks almost too good for an owners mark.

That's a broad hatchet, which were often used to make studs for houses and barns. Broad axes were used more for beams.

I just picked up two axes, five heads and a wedge, an hour ago and two axes yesterday.

someone has hammered the back and cut some steel in the process off some timbers

what is the tone of it when you strike it. would show hammered steel forge or poured mold by the ring tone

There's a facebook page called axe junkies, some really knowledgeable folks on there. They have helped me numerous times identifying axe/hatchet heads.
