Just curious if you have used Hornady CX bullets in the field. How did they do, what are your thoughts.

I mainly use a 7mm STW for deer hunting when I use a rifle. In the past I love Nolser Accubond bullets. Once Nosler bullets were hard / impossible to get, I used Federal Bonded Trophy Tip bullets. The Federals work fine, but are now discontinued. So I'm looking for other options. The Hornady CX bullets are available in the weight I like to use. But I have no experience with CX bullets.

What are your guys thoughts on these bullets?

Yes, I have been using them for many years on big bears and moose in Alaska. They are the best preforming bullet I have ever used. They were originally loaded in the Outfitter line from Hornady. I use the same factory loaded bullet in about 8 calibers. Big hole, most bullets are under the skin on the opposite side I shot them from. Some blow through occasionally, not very often. I have used them from 18 yards out to about 100 yards on moose and bears. I have used them on coyotes from 50-230 yards. All of the mentioned animals fell to a .375 H&H with the cx bullet loaded in the Outfitter line of ammo. It's a nickel plated case too. Nothing got away, not one.

I have not used a smaller caliber because I'm always bear hunting, and sometimes I find a pack of coyotes and sometimes I find a moose. Doesn't matter, .375 H&H works on them all. If your just hunting, they are the best you can find. Give a box a try and see if your gun like them or not. They are usually in a lighter weight bullet than the other manufacturers. 100% bullet weight or really close, no missing petals or lead parts, it's all still there and a perfect mushroom. Every time too.

My son got a moose in Newfoundland with a 180 grain out of his 300 WM. He figures his first shot was about 175. It was dead on its feet but still up and staggering to a hair over 200 when he finished it. I taught him a long time ago if its still standin' keep shootin'. First shot took out the lungs quite nicely, the second broke its neck. Both slugs kept right on going. Load does just under 3100 out of his gun.

I use the Sako 170grn Powerblades in my Sako S20 300WM. They are solid copper and are brutes. Super accurate and pass through anything they encounter. They are getting hard to find and the price is up there. I'm switching to the CX bullet as everyone I know that uses them swears by them. I've been told they perform just like the Powerblades. If so, they are going to be my go to bullet.

Thanks folks, those are some good reviews for the CX bullets. I will get some bullets, and load them up. Sounds like I can expect good performance.
