Fingers crossed the bigger animals start working your area over soon. Till then the weasels and squirrels are keeping you two going.

I agree those ermine sure look larger than the ones I catch.

We always tan our ermine as they make nice gifts, look nice in women's hair, and look great on trapper hats.

Picked up a pretty marten and a dink fox here at home. Not seeing a lot of sign of critters and they are calling for more snow.

Pretty crappy weather up here in TOK the past week. Between snow and -30s not much moved. Did manage to pick up 7 marten though 🙂.

Picked up kitty #3 and the first yote of the season. Got dumped on pretty good between 12-18 inches of the heavy wet junk. Makes you work for it!

Had a kitty come up to a snare pen and of course with all the snow they were way too low. He walked to one side then the other and finally found a spot big enough to get his head in there to sniff the bait.

Got the South Central pot lock tomorrow night! Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Picked up a nice buck mink. Got schooled today by a smart kitty. Walked all in front of the cubby just would not commit. Then to add insult to injury walked behind the cubby hit the snare that was there and backed out. Time to change the game for this one and toss in a pee post.

Gonna try and get back out on Sunday and drop some k9 gear cut plenty of track today along with some otter sets.

My plan for the holiday was to run up to Teds the day after Xmas, so Ted got his grandson to make the run with him today. He called me up as I was out Xmas shopping with the wife I normally put 1 or 2 guard snares around marten sets and manage to pick up a few fox and yotes when they come in and circle the set. I did that when we set our boxes out at the beginning of the season and today it paid off big time
Ted said the wolverine came into the marten set and popped the 160 and when that happened it took off and ran dead smack into the snare
Nothing more satisfying then building a snare, setting it, and connecting with your first wolverine
Glad Ted had his grandson along for the experience! Gonna make a trapper out of him yet

Could have used a couple more swivels on that cable.

Wasn't much more than your good looks keeping that guy from breaking loose!

Well we got dumped on this am with 6-8 inches of the heavy wet stuff so ran out and redid gear and added a few sets.

I always tell people to try different baits. I have a buddy otter trapping down in PWS and loaded up on otters and I am never one to pass on bait The birds are going to town big time



Wanted to get a few otter sets in but got stuck like a big dog. The snow is waist deep on my line now and I managed to find a soft spot. Did get one in along with a mink set.



When I went to the ATA meeting in Delta Junction there was a older gentleman talking about using used kitty litter. He said he has caught everything using it. Had the wife get unscented litter and cleaned the box out yesterday. Has good eye appeal and stinks like a dang cat Put that in where the lynx circled my set. We will see what happens

Well made the last run with Ted yesterday, and pulled all the marten gear. Was in the -30s all week so not much seemed to move. Got that wolverine weighed 34.2 lbs, it is in the shed thawing out along with the few critters we did get

Thought of you victor#0 when I saw these guys Of course the 3 of them were all perched right above two wolf traps so they got a pass



Last marten for us Ended up with 3 on this run along with a ermine.



Had a blast running with Ted this season. Always good company and very knowledgeable on the critters in his neck of the woods I appreciated him sharing his little piece of Alaska with me and look forward to doing it again next season



Ended up with 68 marten, 12 ermine, 2 fox, 1 black wolf, and a nice wolverine

Time to focus on my line here at home

Picked this yote up at a bait station, not to sure on the fur quality. Pretty matted down from snow and ice. This freaking +34 degrees is for the birds!



The lynx are pretty humbling this year. Had one hit 7 snares, over, under through, around, and the worst one he backed out of one! Got fresh bait at all the sets now and the bait stations are topped off. Just need for the weather to get cold again.
