Lotta my cooking and what not corms from my mom and grandma. Weird enough none of it is written down and didn't really get taught per say..more less was always in the kitchen helping and just kinda remembered stuff. Anyhow lost of my friends didn't have that ,also learning that there's ALOT of stuff that goes on in the kitchen of a black household that just..... Doesn't in other ones , simple stuff I do just blows their minds. Like crying chicken without a dredge and egg and all that. Just a grocery bag and flour. Anyhow my friends picked me up from the airport Monday and told told em I'd do a little cooking for them along with buying for the gas as since it was a 2hr drive to come get me. Well it was cold and rainy dark clouds so told em I'd make them something my grandma always did this time of the year. They where really confused when I picked up nothing but a pack of drumettes , two packs of gravy and onion and green bell pepper. Even more confused when I was slapping there hands away when I was done frying the chicken and made a pot of rice. Finally fixed em a plate and put it in front of them and told them it was smothered fried chicken. Grandma used to make it with the left over fired chicken from the other day. She'd make the gravy , the onions and bell peppers would add down good vitamins fiber and what not a long with the flavor, toss in the chicken or pork chops and just let it roll in a crock pot all day. Buy the time I'd get home and do all my farm chores I'd be soaking wet and cold and this stuff falling off the bone over a bed of rice was amazing. Would warm you up like nothing else. So made it and told them to try it and we'll.... laugh buddy's been watching on the left over last few days saying the cold just hasn't been bothering him lol !

Then today I got to pick up some boxes and my girl can barely talk , somthign with her throat and a cold. Finally told her to sit down and be quiet for a few minutes while I make her something after 20min of her talking about how non of the cough drops or whatever don't work and how she hates hot toddies. Well a mason jar skemteas bangs lemon juice honey and liquor I put it in front of her and told her to drink on it while I made she something to eat. 15min later she's talking normal asking what the heck I made , I just kept laughing telling here it's something mom always made when I was sick. Didn't understand how how she couldn't taste and of the booze and just told her it's a family secret, made her a jar of it and told her how to take it for the rest of the week cool

Told me I need to write a recipe book for this stuff but I don't think I can because so much of it is just tastes and knowing what's what lol.

There are many great recipes that were never written down and now unfortunately they are lost to time, an old neighbor lady used to make Swedish thin pancakes dad tried to make them and could never get it right then he went down to the steamer day they always had when she would cook the pancakes and stood and watched her make them and it was a little bit of soda on the palm of her hand that he hadn’t seen before but it made the cakes, now to my knowledge he is the only one that knows the recipe and I’m trying to get him to write it down, so at least write things down so other people can enjoy the recipes.
