So some recent findings I've made has me curious about something, has any company ever put out any 200grain or heavier 30-30 loads ? Been flipping though load manuals as far back as the 30's and 175 is the heaviest I've seen.

The 30-30 does not have the case capacity and pressure to push 200 grain lumps to anything that does not look like a mortar round.

and not really the twist rate to stabilize a 200+ gr pill at sub sonic speeds if you were thinking of that way.

i have a manual with 190gr lead bullets and the Jacketed bullet data stops at 170

I'm not a 30-30 shooter to say but I loaded some 175 Sierra flat points and they will uproot a deer if you're at close range

Buffalo bore loads a 190 grain 30-30, I see them on the ammo shelf in Fairbanks at around $90 a box I believe. Don't know anyone that has used them though, I've always used the 170 grain federal fusion and have been very happy with them on big game. Maybe if you were going strictly after grizz it would be worth it but the 170 gr. fusion will handle everything else if you keep it under 100 yds.

I believe hawk makes the bullet buffalo bore uses. I shot a few for fun, not what I'd really choose to hunt with

Sam Fadala has some 190 grain loads in his books, bullets pulled from 300,303,s?
But 170's will lay low anything else. There was an Aussie guy on one of the lever forums that was killing feral brush bulls with plain 150 gr factory loads.
There isn't anything much tougher than a mature feral bull..

When I was a kid I killed a lot of stuff with 150 grain winchester silver tip factory ammo. I dont think the new silver tips are the same bullet. I been loading hornady round nose. They work good. At 30-30 ranges.

Dream buck finally walks out into a field edge at 250 yards-as I'm walking to the truck for lunch.

I'm not making that shot with a Turty-Turty

When there's 50 other caliber choices that will work great and easily make that shot.

What is it that people "like" about that caliber? It's a lead football.

lots of good levers out there besides that cal.

None of the Historic "won the West" photos of leier guns are showing a Turty-Turty.

Since its only been popular for 125 years I have no idea why anyone would want one.

That Dream buck dosent Always show up During the most of the day times - but after sitting in the brush choked hills ...you sometime Walk out to lunch through a field or long clearing .
And for me and many others; That's when that Big buck shows up - for me Twice in 46 years and I was glad to be Shooting a caliber that can and does kill deer in brush and at 200 plus yards easily.

So it's tradition over. successful shot opportunity

Around here, if that dream buck walks by 250 yards away, you'll never know about it. If you want a shot further than say 60 yards. bring a weed whacker along. For me just taking a stroll on my patch, the 94 is an easy gun to carry for those. " you look tasty " moments. One early morning walk I surprised a coyote with it as well. When I check traps, it comes along as well most of the time. Its other than the M1Carbine the only rifle the missus will shoot as she is not fond of recoil at all

The thought I had was that not everyone just sits.
I do get what you are saying and have carried a bolt rifle
a lot more than the carbine.
They are all good by me.

when you are used to foster slugs from a smooth bore a 30-30 is a long range precision firearm.

I wonder why archery is so popular since you can't shoot out to 250 yds.?

I use to shoot 170 grain factory loads for deer. I switched to 150s because of the extensive damage the 170s were causing. More of a bear load in my opinion.

If you want to throw 200g chunks from a lever get a .35 Remington.

It doesn’t get much better.
