I downloaded the free version and have 5 days left. So I have 3 qustions for ya,

I have not got a servey for the land and I was wondering if it will help me get the 2 corner post in my woods?
When I pull up my land it highlights it would it move when I start walking??

#2 will I be able to put Lat.and Lond in and find the place?

#3 will I be able to save a spot were I put a trap??

The version I will get is the base 19.95 I think.

Neither the software or the GPS on your phone is anywhere near precise enough to survey corner posts. It just gets you in the general area and idea of boundaries.

As mentioned, it's not a survey tool and you're probably in Metes and Bounds country.
I run the Elite Pro version but your movement could be based on moving too soon after you dropped the waypoint. I typically start by using Mark my Location and then I add the waypoint. When I first started with it, I had several waypoints that were way off the original intent. You can add trap icons under the more waypoint menu shown. Practice with a known location, mark the waypoint and then use the go to waypoint feature to check accuracy.

Forgot to add that I blow up the map on my computer- you can see I dropped in corners on the lower part of the pic by adding waypoints- when I went in the woods- I just say go to that waypoint and it takes me to the spot- great for reference. I'm not a power user but I use it for planning and land acquisition strategies- it's my number one tool

Guss,
When you click on your added waypoint it will give you the Latitude and Longitude if desired but just use the Go to Waypoint feature for returning to that spot. If you need help drop me a PM and I can drop in your corners and share the waypoints with you via text message.

It will get you in the vicinity but the tax maps they use aren't reliable enough for survey work.

Personally i would look at SpartanForge as an app better maps and actually built with trappers in mind

Hey Eagleeye, quick question. Does the Elite give you a better picture as far as resolution? I have the 2 State version and it’s really not very clear when zooming in .

I believe they get the property lines off the county gis maps, so if they are fairly accurate then you can get close, but the county can be way off too. As far a posting your land start big someone will correct you

Like the others said it ain’t good enough for survey work. I use mine to mark traps and does a good job of that as long as you blow the screen up before you mark it. Good enough to get you pretty close to where you set em. The landowner information is good unless the ground has recently changed hands. Good tool for trapping but like most other tools, not fool proof.

I bet a survey could run $4,000-$6,000- unless you're in a land dispute it can get pricey- make sure there's not one on file first. Maybe someone could give you a better range- like Zim.

As for dropping waypoints and better pic I like huntstand better. Only plus I see in onx is it tells who owns what if you upgrade. This year out of state people where pulling up and driving around asking to hunt property.

I called 2 company's I just want the 2 posts in the woods. Because I paid a forester to help me with the price of trees when the tree guys come to cut down trees and I want to make sure it's my land there on.

You have to be careful when it comes to property boundaries. My MILs property was off. She owns 6 acres, and it basically had the lot showing that she owned half hers and half the neighbors. I find it is MOSTLY accurate, but I would never consider it to mark property boundaries.

When we purchased our house we had to have a survey, we opted for corner flagging, much less expensive. We then walked the property and found where there were metal stakes/markers. You would be better off pulling up your deed and seeing if there are known markers listed in there, or seeing if a previous survey was ever done.

OnX is off BAD on ranch on I’m on in West Texas. 300 yards or more. OLD fence is the boundary line. NO ONE builds 2 cattle pens like these 300 yards on someone else.
