Be tough to do with a drone unless ya had thermal and it was fresh. Betting the guy was using it in a way that violated state law.
Can’t fly over big game in wa and hunt the same day

As noted in the article they are legal here in Ohio, I drive by a few places that offer thermal drone recoveries. I dont really have a problem with them, though I think if you want to make a fair-chase argument, they perhaps should be limited to say after shooting time to midnight. Seems like most deer recoveries are done for deer that are shot towards the end of shooting time anyways.
Just wish people would learn how and where to shoot deer and not have to use such services but i hate wasting animals more.

your not hunting if you put the gun or bow away , your searching for your wounded and possibly dead game
why let it go to waste
some law that states you can't fly and hunt after till sun rise the next morning would be plenty fair
heck take a knife to finish it
you should finish what you started

I just asked my son about this , we came up with the idea , if people are willing to spend this much to recover a deer
put a tax on it and make the tax collector DNR happy
drone recovery tag 100 dollars , present your drone recovery tag # to the drone pilot he logs it and reports it to the DNR
then you would learn how many of these are actually happing and do some tracking of it.

I'm for less technology and more boots on the ground, learn to take more ethical shots, and improve tracking/recovery skills with your own senses
If this becomes common place the price of the technology for it will come down and more people will certainly start abusing it.
Every recovery I've heard of or seen is for a large buck but not a doe or small buck, head hunters imo
This will also lead to people making marginal shots assuming they can recover with a drone later!
For the OP's question of opinions I'm against drone recovery

It's recovery of a wounded or dead deer. Yes..it should be legal. If it's abused by some or used for initially hunting or attempting to take the deer...then charge their arses and seize the drone.

I like the idea of having another tool to find your deer. It’s better than letting the coyotes have it. Might be a good side business if you had $15000 to spend on a drone.
Looks like he needs another year;-)

For the OP's question of opinions I'm against drone recovery My boys are 11 and 13. The 11 year old has killed 15 deer the 13 year old 18. Neither have ever lost a deer. But things happen. Deer move wind blows and people are never perfect. Last year Mt youngest had a shot hit low in the chest on a doe. We tracked it about 3/4 miles for 4 hours before the blood stoped. I got on line and found a guy with tracking dogs in the area and called him. He was out of state elk hunting but I did call him for a doe. Finally we went back hunting. As luck would have it a few hours later my son shot another doe. When we got to it he said it has two holes in it. Sure enough just 3 the hole i below saw was a 2nd hole. We were in the sand woods not far from where the blood ran out. Talk about getting lucky he got a second shot at the same deer. Ethical shots. The first shot was about 40 yards the 2nd was 110 that droped it. Witch shot was not ethical,? I don't think I would need it but I sure wouldn't mind having the option available. Talking about ethics. There will always be poor shots and people that can't track. So twll them o to bad no you can't use all the tools available to recover your deer so it rots and they go on to shoot several more making bad shots and loosing several of those. Yes that's a miss guided since of ethic superiority in my opinion. Also a (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) poor since of freedom. Well I don't like it, I can't afford it , someone may is It to do something illegal so make it illegal. Turn that to a different thing like guns. Someone may do something illegal with them better ban the modern semi autos single shots only or no guns at all. Hmm the same mind set as a gun grabber you have on drones . More boots on the ground are you kidding. Again it's all about you and how you hunt and resources available to you. When I'm out of state hunting it's myself and my young boys. Sure I can just call up my clan and buddies and have them drive 3 hours to come help track a deer. This is a very poor mind set you have and bad for hunting.

Last thing I want on my peaceful opening Mourning is my day ruined by a noisy drone flying around by someone too lazy to track a deer or a neighbor who thinks it might have gone to my woods. Shoot it down that is what I say about deer , Shoot it to the ground , so you don't have to chase it .
