My wife's friend has had some trouble with wildlife snacking on her birds and other domestic animals. She has been having a tuff time. She tried snaring herself but all that was caught was her peacock, which did not survive. I just happen to have a couple days off work, so this morning I set her property, she was very grateful but I insisted the pleasure was mine. Everything from bobcats, coyotes and foxes have been picking off her animals for months. The conditions are miserable. The snow is melting and the ground is thawing. I don't have any wax dirt or hay so I set as many in the grass as I could and stuffed some snow over them snares along the fence where they're slipping through. I'm confident I'll have something in the morning. The place is nothing but tracks. The property is a hot spring in the desert that just so happens to attract waterfowl. On my way out she gave me permission to hunt waterfowl tomorrow morning. Oh yeah!

Yesterday was 3" of snow. It's all gone. Snares were my only hope, as I figured would be the case. I had several visits but no dog is going to step on a trap just laying on top of the ground. My grass sets were under water. The snare at the gate was a swing and a miss. The sticks were placed after the miss. I've reset the foot holds in clusters around a buried pile of bait in the grass on higher ground. They blend well, so should have some action soon.

Sounds promising. We can’t use snares in PA but we can use cable restraints if certified. I’ve never learned anything about them tho

The snares are not mine, but I used them because they are effective, and legal in my area. The main goal is depredation, so perfect fur is not a priority. The place is over run with predators, luckily no lion sign. I'm going to let them soak a few days, though Im sure I'll get a phone call if anything gets caught before then.
