This weekend is our last weekend to hunt deer. My wife and son had shotgun permits. They both decided to stay in the warm house. -14 here just south of Freeport. Cold this week then following week in the 30’s.

January is our freezer filling month with the extended bow season- 3 down and one more to go.

with full freezers I am just going to keep feeding the fire today

Stand hunting gets rough when the temps drop in to single numbers or colder But it can be a productive time if things go right I spent a lot of money over the years getting the right clothes to be able t deal with the cold Another thing that help is to stay out of the wind And if you ca even better yet find a sunny spot that deer tend to bed in you are now in the sun at a place where you have a chance of deer nearby . And one other thing that helps me hunt during the very cold days is take something hot to drink or eat plus have some snacks along It is incentive knowing you can pour a hot cup of coffee if you get really cold and something to eat takes your mind off of how cold it is .
