The best workbench I had I built at our first house out of a bowling alley lane with similar legs as you made. Wish I still had it. I had all hand tool drawers and a wall cabinet for lathe tools. If you can find a lane they’re about 3-1/2 thick maple- Each board is individual so it like moving an 800 lb accordion.

I am starting on the same project, but from a much worse beginning LOL. My workshop has been through 3 moves in the last 10 years and spent the better part of 1 year in storage. I have ADHD and my wife calls me a hoarder.
I actually achieved a clearing large enough to safely run a tablesaw over the holidays before my dad got sick. When I get back, I am planning on building a couple of mobile tables that will function as workbenches, outfeed tables and assembly/glue tables. Also going to build a modular "tool bar" for my metal working tools (pipe bender, ring roller, brake, vise) that works like a trailer hitch. I have never had a rock-solid vise before, so I am hoping this solves that issue.
Once the shop is up and running, I'll be decking my 1436 jon boat in aluminum, installing LED lighting and building a "rail" around the gunnels to accept rod holders and posts for a boat blind.

BTW - the start of your project looks better than the finish of any project I've ever done. Thanks for posting and please keep sharing.

Another option is to beef up your outfeed table for a dual purpose workbench, great for glue ups and mobility.

Well, I have the rough framing finished. There were a couple of reasons I didn't do this bench modular and just built it in place. That being said, I knew getting it square, plumb and level was going to be a nightmare. The floor that the Amish poured when they built this place is the worst concrete pour I have ever seen in my life. They didn't even screed it, just dumped the concrete out and "smoothed it out" ! The floor can literally vary by a few inches per foot. My main shop is even worse. It's like a stair climb walking from one side to the other, and the shop is only about 20 X 20. Anyway, I was not disappointed. I spent hours getting this thing all Plumb, square, and level. Pretty much spent all the sanity I have left. But now, at least it's done.

That looks pretty good. My workshop looks a bit like a suicide bombers training camp at the moment. To many projects going on at the same time right now.

That concrete job takes a special tool many people will never know it exists, it’s called a feed scoop shovel screed and creates the perfect surface for putting livestock on, but I’d say you’re doing a nice job on the cabinets.

Liking the build so far and can understand your frustration. They make a self leveling skim coating you can pour over the floor.

Been a long two days. Luckily, I had a buddy come over and give me a hand. Cutting 4X8 sheets of plywood by myself in my little shop is no easy feat. Having an extra set of hands is a big help.
I got all the bottoms put in and all the braces for the drawer guides made and mounted yesterday. It was quite a bit more work that I expected.



Today, I got to work on the face. I cut, put together, and mounted all the styles and rails. I used 3/4" sanded birch plywood.






Tomorrow I plan on doing the drawers and, if there is time, the doors for the bottom shelving. There have been a few hiccups here and there, but it's coming along. It's impressively sturdy. I can try to shake it with everything I have, and it barely moves. Once the top is on, you'll be able to park a tank on it.

I am jealous of how good you are at your craft, Finster!

This is why i do my best work in the kitchen. Lots of counter space. I just have to wait until no one else is home.

As an apprentice years ago, I learned how to build cabinets on the job just like this. I can appreciate the hurtels you have to deal with. Looks great!

Moving right along, I got all of the drawers made and fitted. I planed down 2X6's to 1 inch thick to use for the sides and 5/8 plywood for the bottoms. I didn't get too crazy here, just butt joints, glue and screws. After all, no need for overkill! If they fail, I'll do something more extravagant in the future like dovetails or box joints, but I think this will be fine.







Since the drawers are now installed, I can get the top on. I used 2X10's. This bench is now rock solid. I can't even shake it.





Now for the steel plate. I chose 3/16th's it should be heavy enough. I bought a 4x8 sheet and had that cut in half. 2'X8'. I have more and my neighbor is going to cut the last bit in the center for me this week, so the entire top will be steel.




The day is still young. Guess I'll start on the doors and drawer fronts.
