If he pulls off a cheaper cable and cell phone plan he will be very busy. A lot of consumers that have no options and are getting stiffed by their current providers will be chomping at the bit to dump them.

Years ago the only option here was a company called Quest they were brutal with their high fees. When the competition came around they got dumped left and right.

I expect that to happen in a lot of overcharged places if the system is any good.

White, are you on Hugh's net up there or is there some kind of community internet service there in McGrath? Just curious.

I think the technology is there, but the providers use cheap hardware so they can charge for service calls.

I WAS on CenturyLink high(lol) speed internet down here in the woods.
It was so abysmally bad and the repair service almost non-existent that I was ready to go back to dial up service. Seriously.
Hay truck took out my drop over the road last spring and C-Link said it would be three weeks before they could get out and fix it.

SO, I went to my cell phone provider and they fixed me up with a mobile hot spot. No, no a smartphone hotspot, a separate hotspot. About the size of an Altoids can.
Works great and it is better internet than C-Link ever gave me. Faster speeds, no buffering and about the same price.

Century Link abused me for years, made me pay those monthly bills for their crappy service, and now I feel emancipated. Free at last.

The cellular service could be a pretty cool thing for backcountry use, if it’s not more expensive than garmin inreach.

Here local, Verizon is going to bring out cellular internet. Or, internet via their cellphone towers.
They are beta testing it now and say it will be available by spring. Works similar to this hot spot I have now but a dedicated home unit.

I ask if I could be one of the beta testers but they said they had enough, so.......The prices will be around $40 month. That will be about half of what C Link was charging me.
