You were corrected because you were wrong painting all easterners with one brush.

Had a major storm come through back in late spring this year. Winds knocked down trees for about 25 mile stretch. We lost less than 10 trees at the farm. Neighbor from New Hampshire lost close to a 100. Stopped and offered to help cut them up and bring my splitter as I already had it at the farm. He looked at me and asked why would I do that if they are not on your land? He just couldn’t fathom someone was willing to go out of their way to help a neighbor. He even burns wood but buys it. Well the trees are still down. Will more than likely stop in and offer to help again but not expecting him to have a change of heart. I'm not suggesting that your motives were anything but neighborly goodwill here; he may have felt that he would be in your debt if he allowed you helped him.

I disagree with the east thing. If you go to the east coast the people are very friendly and down to earth, especially in Newfoundland and that is as far east as you can go in North America Visited Nova Scotia a few years back including Halifax. Very friendly and courteous people.

Law Dog, what do you think of the State retiring the old prison and plopping a new one in the middle of farm ground in Lincoln County...? I wonder what the cost of their from scratch sewer system is going to cost us before its all said and done (what does it cost to build a 3,000 person sewer and waste water system from zero infrastructure?). Meanwhile in Soo Foo, we have too many young pukes that are even stealing from vehicles in big snowstorms. Not enough of them have seen the business end of a 12 gauge muzzle.I wonder what direction that trend would head if the punks started taking casualties..? And that's not even "out of region"...

There are differences in just each end of our State really it was a simple observation that the usual folks made it into something it was not. It’s to be expected I guess that is why a lot of folks stop posting. Prisons, pipelines, hog confinement, feedlots, processing plants they end up somewhere no matter what. Where it’s going already has several corrections facilities in the region. I have no dog in the fight so I’ve not done my research on the issues.

I don't think so but if they install a whole bunch more rounda-abouts in Soo Foo area maybe Sniffy and Sec Butt---- will give them some more "infrastructure" money to start a waste water system for 3-5 thousand from scratch.

LOL I'm thinking you're thinking like a common man. Politicians , don't think small. We have a community park in the Village , that has served the Village for as long as I can remember. The bridge is a one lane bridge , been there as long as the park has . $492,000 State Critical Infrastructure grant and a State Capital Budget grant of $250,000 for replacing the bridge. 3/4 Of a million $ for a one lane bridge that's only 40 or 50 feet long at best. It pays to be in government , there's always ways to spend taxpayers money.

What’s the real estate worth where the Sioux Falls penitentiary is at now what is the land worth where they want to put the new one? No clue just a thought.

What’s the real estate worth where the Sioux Falls penitentiary is at now what is the land worth where they want to put the new one? No clue just a thought. So, I think the location is in the middle of a lopsided triangle with Harrisburg at the top, Worthing at the sw corner and the se corner at Canton. Its raw but good tilled, level farmland so probably north of $12,000 an acre. The state got ownership because the single woman died without any heirs or something like that. No one knew they had prison plans for it until the Sec of Corrections announced it as a done deal. If they don't build a waste water treatment system on site, they would have to pump it a good ways, I doubt any of the three towns I mentioned can handle 3,000 or more new people to their systems. We'll see.

Ohio Wolverine- The goofs in the planning and engineering departments between bedroom town here and the main city have one proposal of 6 round abouts within 1 1/2 miles as an option to help upgrade the local slow-speed (nowhere over 55 mph) highway between bedroom town and main city. I know fed DoT hates any kind of traffic lights and 4-way stops because they supposedly waste too much fuel but 6 of those clown shows (we're still getting used them) in 1 1/2 miles seems like some serious bong smoking to me!!

Money to be made at both ends build a new prison then make money selling the old place off a win win for those involved. Don’t see why they don’t fix the old one it’s made of stone. I’ve been in there several times doing transports it’s far from falling down.

I'm not sure what they can do with the old prison. They will keep the Jamison Annex since its modern but the rest has just too many band aids applied to keep it going for decades to come. Its location is not exactly the growth end of town.

I’ve been in there several times doing transports it’s far from falling down. Like it's said, where there's a will there's a way. Politicians don't care , it's not their money being wasted , and they get their palms greased too. Politicians just think there's an endless well to drain. Well it's running dry , and that's why this country is 30 some trillion in debt ! Same with local governments in most places.
