I'm watching too. You may want to post that over on the Wilderness Forum. Some of those guys may have some of those.

I watch for the pins when I am at garage sales and such. Some show up in Montana due to the back and forth migration over the years. The older and scarcer the more the value. I have never seen that one and it appears very few if any other people have either. Value is subjective. It could be worth a lot more depends who would bid at auction but then again maybe not as much.

I'm a picker so I love the show- the standing joke with my wife is, I bought this years ago at an estate sale under the premise that "Ugly=$" with art. Every year my wife says why are you hanging onto that- I tell her I'm taking it to the Antique Road Show, I'll put it out somewhere in the house when we're having company and she always puts it in the basement or I find it in my workshop

Appraisals and the real world are 2 different things. No doubt the pennant is worth money but what realistically? I never see them offer to pay up what they say it is worth..

They quite often reshow an item and have a site you can go to and see what it brought.

Also sometimes they give retail for item, which of course is the high end
And sometimes insurance value which is high end plus 25% or more

I love watching the show but realize that like anything while there is a price there has to be a buyer willing to pay that price. It is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay.

They are contracted not to buy anything. So they can't.

I get that, they act like it is a cut and dry price which it isnt. The owner thinks he is getting screwed when someone offers him a real world price. The only thing I can see their appraisal being good for/needed for is insurance. Look at a recent Case XX knife price guide then look at recent online sold prices- big difference.

I hear you but at times the item goes for way more than their estimate also. It is just an estimate.

I am a picker as well and while I enjoy watching Roadshow, Pickers, etc. they are making things difficult for me and other pickers with the prices they throw around. The "I saw one of those go for ....dollars." line makes it tough to get good deals sometimes.

Fun to watch for sure and still fun to go ut on "the hunt" for treasure. Every once in a while I walk into what I call a "Superpick" and that makes it all worthwhile.

My father-in-law taught me "You make your money when you buy." and I hold true to that. I also figure if you run into a "superpick" be prepared to buy everything.

I usually hit a lot of garage and estate sales, and usually stay away from auctions because people have a tendency to go crazy at auctions.

I hit then all too, and the right auction can be very lucrative. About 1 in 15 for me. I usually get something or a few good things at the right price at each one, but theres always the ones you remember. Garage and estate sales can be overpriced also- or have nothing much to offer. I always heard " the moneys in buying, not selling".
