What’s the best way to transport green furs to the buyer? I live about 2 hours away from the buyer. How long before I leave to go there should I start thawing them out? Also how should I transport them I.E. in an ice chest with bagged ice in the bottom and maybe some burlap over the ice bags, rolled up or unrolled? Should I put something in between each fur so they don’t touch? Looking for some advice from y’all that have done this before. Thank you fellas for all the help and your patience with a greenhorn wanna be trapper like me!

Unless it's warm or raining I just transport in the back of the truck.

Bring the pelts to the buyer skinned, frozen flat, but dry, clean, combed, & deburred.

Have them laid out in a large cooler to keep them cold & frozen till you get there.

I, myself, use three 181 quart Igloo coolers to store them while transporting.

Presented this way the buyer can still evaluate the fur but it is not a soggy, bloody mess
and if the offering price is not suitable to your requirements you can reject the offer
and return your frozen pelts to home and the freezer in good shape.

i have sold green, raw beaver & coon this way and had no issues.

Good idea.
But I think you're overthinking this. Take them out of the freezer the night before you go. Run a brush through them, load up and go.

but . . . if you think rejecting the offer and returning your pelts to your freezers might be an option . . . don't bring too many at once unless you have enough freezers/space to handle the sudden load.

Like Trapdog said I really am over thinking this and I just need to thaw out and go. I will definitely call the buyer first and see what he prefers. And to answer Province Farms question yes I have enough fur to pay my gas and have about $100 left over, couple otter and a bobcat really came in clutch to go along with the rats and coons. But even if you don't, no big deal. Take a buddy along on the trip so ya have someone to b.s. with. Hopefully the buyer will have time to visit a little, but even if he is busy I bet he'll answer a few questions. Maybe there'll be some other trappers hanging around to talk to. Just make it a good time.

Definitely agree Trapdog! Like a lot of other stuff we outdoorsmen do it’s more about the fun experiences with family and friends than anything else.

I remember groenys last run in Wisconsin last spring he was telling everyone to keep everything frozen for meet up but unless it’s a beaver it would be pretty hard to grade if rolled in a ball.
