I have an interesting opportunity for next year, trapping in a somewhat of a wilderness area off of horses for bobcat and fisher. It’s an area where the ridges/drainages are 2-5 miles from a road, and likely never or extremely limited trapping.

Typically, I wouldn’t set areas too close together and try to hit different populations of animals, but because of the terrain, distance and short hours of day light, I’m thinking I’ll be limited to covering ~15 miles a day.

For the low population mountain predators like fisher/bobcat, how many locations do you think would be adequate in a 15 mile straight line of ridges?

That’s tough! Aren’t they both kind of erratic in their travels? I know a Fisher is….

I guess it depends if you have harvest limits within your state.

If no individual limit I would set every major travel funnel/corridor.
If there's an individual limit I'd probably set 3 -4x the traps for whatever the limit is.
E.g. 2 fisher limit I'd make 6-8 total fisher sets.

I don't disagree but what happens when you have a limit of two, but you've caught 3? Just turn it over I suppose.
