Working on insuring, achieving and purging stuff. I had this vintage need point tapestry 40 x 60 - was always told it was "worth a lot" (you know how that goes). Trying to identify the scene before I take it to auction- any thoughts?

Appears to be George and Martha Washington receiving guests. The gentleman to the right in blue and buff is wearing a Continental Army uniform, company grade officer by the braid.

Stars on the runner may be a link to freemasonry.

But other than the uniform that's mostly speculation on my part.

The architectural details are correct for the period being of the federal style.

Agree. The British Flag is represented due to at that time, GW was still a British Subject. He even tried to enlist in the British Navy when young :-)
