My mom told me many years ago to not support the red cross. The reason was because during WW2 the red cross got donations for care packages from all kinds of companies for the soldiers. Some big tobacco companies gave free packs of cigarettes to put in the care packages.
The red cross pulled the cigarettes to the side and sold them to the soldiers.

Right after 9/11 people donated hundreds of millions towards the 9/11 victims and their families. Red Cross was put in charge of the funds. They tried to cut out about 100 million for future emergencies. In other words take away 100 million from the 9/11 victims.

The public went nuts.

Boycott.

Salvation Army raised eyebrows a few years ago when it endorsed CRT in its national curriculum. Many Conservatives stopped giving to them.

Several years ago, an aqaintance of mine had their house burn down. They were grateful that the Red Cross put them up in a motel for a week or so until they could find a place to rent.
Much to their surprise, they git a rather huge bill from the Red Cross for much more than they could have found a place for on their own.

Disgusting organization imo.

My dad was a WW2 and Korean vet. Said the Red Cross always wanted them to pay for anything. He always supported the Sally's and had no use for the Red Cross. I've seen the difference in how the Red Cross and Salvation Army treated and help victims in 2 different tornados around here. Salvation Army in first and last to leave, Red Cross uses them to get donations for the Red Cross and leaves.

The Red Cross only spends 9 cents of every dollar they beg, to help the people they are supposed to be helping. They should lose their status as a charity.

I gave them 18 gallons of blood. Was going for 20 gallon award but they ran a test on a blood same and it tested positive for AIDS. The second test was negative. That was 20 years ago and no AIDS yet, but I can no longer donate.

I guess that is a good policy, but a bummer to get the wrong diagnosis.

In the 'Nam, I don't remember EVER being hit up for money from a Donut Dolly, for food, phone calls home or ?, other than the usual "make a donation can".

Trouble with me , is where can I donate blood now?
Only places I've seen so far are plasma centers that pay you for your blood.
I'm still looking , does anyone know of a place to donate blood ?

That's a nice accomplishment. The same exact number (18 gals ) that my dad did before he passed. He was looking forward to eventually getting his 20 gallon pin.

18 gallons takes a lot of time and effort. Kudos to you.

I heard the same thing from an uncle who served in WW2. He said the Red Cross charged them for food and coffee. While the Salvation Army in the area gave them everything at no cost.

I believe 100% in donating blood. During covid the Red Cross was begging for donors due to the nations low supply and even giving Amazon gift cards. One morning I was driving past the local red cross center and decided to donate. I've donated to the red cross before via blood mobile at my hometown a few miles away. The center had just opened and my car was the only one in the parking lot. I entered the building to what seemed like a ghost town. I was finally met by some guy after a couple of minutes. I said I'd like to donate blood, he asked if I had an appointment, I said no, I didnt. He said I need to call in to make an appointment for donations. I said, "you dont take walk-ins"? He said appointments only. I said I'm the only person in the building I cant believe you cant squeeze me in. He said appointments only. I said, you must not be short on blood if your turning away people willing to donate, then left.

I remember boot camp and having to sign over our first pay check to reimburse the red cross for the flying 50. The pressure we had to endure to donate so we could fly a ribbon on our guideon.

Saw during the floods on the Mississippi the zoo with the red cross staff put up in the best hotels while claiming to be out there with the victims. They will never see a dime from me again.
