I was born with a small hole in my heart and the doctor said to sun bathe me for an hour a day to help my heart heal. Probably before D3 was available. That was 82 years ago and now I have a pacemaker but no hole! I ran hard in my younger years and put away wet living my bucket list....lol.

I used to take 10,000 IU, I now take 20,000. two pills. I experimented with them and found out I feel better with 20,000 than 10,000 during the winter, In summer I back off to 10,000
Here in Alaska, we dont get much sun, and I have read that people living on tropical islands still had low Vitamin D levels. Most people dont walk around naked to get the full benefit of the sun.
Wearing sunglasses can also block it. I recently went to 10,000 from 5,000 and plan to go up to 20,000 along with k2. Some of what Im reading has people in the 40,000 to 60,000 range and talks about 100,000 a day for a dew days then back down. Im reading claims of all kinds of ailments being cured from this. What exactly feels better to you?

You get vitamin d naturally from sun exposure. So I less you have extremely sensitive skin and can't go outside, most people probably dont need supplemental D I have a buddy that owns a roofing company and does most of the jobs. He tested low for Vitamin D. It’s actually more common than you think. My wife is outside most every day and is extremely low. The lack of Vitamin D has been linked to many illnesses, including bipolar. Heck, I’m outside 365 days a year and was on the low side of normal. So NO you don’t get all you need from the sun. And for the record none of us went to Brazil or had foreign Docs.

I used to be a big vitamin nut. Now, after years of research reading and talking to many nutrition experts, I think many people overdose on vitamins. Many vitamins and minerals don’t have all the ingredients or amount of ingredients they say they do.

What exactly feels better to you? I felt in a better mood. Low Vitamin D puts people in a bad mood. I had an office job once and the workers got really irritated and combative to one another during the dark part of the winter. If you are walking around the house all grumpy and dont know why, its probably low Vitamin D, or a high carb diet has the same effect of projecting grouchiness. As far as overdosing Vitimin D, its just oil from a sheep's skin, so dont think it can cause serious problems. Like most vitamins any excess is peed out. In fact most vitamins are locked and unavailable from a pill and vegies both.

I had a nutrition professor make the comment that Americans have the most expensive urine in the world. From all the mega doses of water soluble vitamins we pee out daily. If a thimbleful is all the body can use at a time the other two gallons are just voided.
However, vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin so the body doesn't void it very fast.

I have health issues and see a Cardiologist as well as an Endocrinologist every other month. My Cardiologist I am using now actually corresponds with the one I used in WV since he is the one who performed my Heart Surgeries. My file is 711 pages long. I just found that out last month. Neither one of them push vitamins and BOTH just make me keep a log of my meals and what I drink and alter things from that. Guess what, they BOTH want me to keep up with the lemon water I have always used. One gallon spring water and one lemon sliced. Nothing else.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

My wife read up on it. She was hurting and felt like she was catching a cold everyday. She started taking a general supplement of vitamin D and K and she's feeling way better now.
