These striping guys always amazed me.

Wouldn't mind giving it a stab.

When iam done fixing the damage and paint work...I'll have to pay attention to the striping guy / girl

Maybe with 5 years of practice...I can do it...lol

That is an easy design, Nessy. You need the right brush that when loaded , makes a nice continuous line. Nothing but the paint base, all cleaned of any wax, dirt or grease...One Shot Painters oil based enamel , the right colah tone or tones to match your cah paint . A special clear coat to top off protection when totally cured dry.

Practice on metal a bit before hand. Those turns and curves are NOT as easy as most may think they are.

Over here that's airbrushed.
Cheats use tape.

Call that graphic "long hair".

Practice on your mower Smuck.
Be the coolest around.

Steve Kafka was my instructor. Known country wide as one of the greats in pinstriping. He has a website, sells his own custom brushes, along with DVD lessons, and more. I bought his brushes and that is all I use. Look up his videos to see about the most beautiful, flowing work you'll evah enjoy. A great man . We are friends .

Pinstriping brushes are quite different than normal paint brushes. They resemble more like the long Japanese brushes used in such amazing oriental art.

There are special pencils that do the outlines on a tone paint , on metal or fiberglass, so you can erase lines and re draw til you're happy with it to trace with paint.

Learn to hold your breath at times, too, just as a long distance shooter does as they squeeze the trigger. Even a strong heartbeat can interrupt a perfect circle or line .

It is an exacting art style, but so worth it when you get decent at it. I think you'll like it, Nessy. You already have the ahhtist's eye and hand coordination.

Good stuff Sharon.
Best I knew that did this, named Stamp.

Drywaller friend had an S-10, all white.
He striped it all around with couple graphics, just a little.
I liked it. he wrote it off for work ads..

Sharon...I've had this brush for 40 yeeahs...

But I cheat ..and use striping tape ...then put the color down with this brush.

I am sure there are other camel hair brushes ...that stripers use

Yep, Macs are the traditional brushes used by many.

When bought new, they have to be trimmed to that point. At least they used to. Had to customize them .

Lots of folks use tape, Nessy. That is the go to for a straight guided line. Like those long thin consistent racing lines that start on the fenders and go all the way down the sides to end in some decor at the rear lights. Tape is time-saving. Not cheating. When time is of the essence, ahhtists grab that roll and go.

Anyway, have FUN. Don't worry about stuff too much. Enjoy what you're doing and have fun.

I do suggest you do a practice time on some sheet metal scraps. Like riding the auction sale horse in the yahhd corral before taking him out in the open. Some ah hah moments learning how to hold the brush, and load it just right, not too little or too much, and getting a continuous nice line, your paint the right thickness, etc, would be beneficial.

Had a guy paint a pinstripe around the cab of my '49 half ton just like they came from the assembly line. He did an amazing job in no time at all. I asked him how does he make it look so easy. He said, "A lot of practice and a bit of cannabis to calm his nerves."

You need to practice on the wife's washer and dryer, then move up to the fridge

Not my cup of tea, but those guys are fantastic artists.

I knew a guy here that did it for a living a very slow stead guy he did a lot of race cars before you could buy wraps, in his spare time he fixed watches and clocks as he said it helped keep his hand steady and kept his eyes sharp.
