Here we go. Idk most of the opinions you get about long range hunting get kind a weird when you look at it. Lotta folks will go sit in a deer blind over a feeder/ food plot in a heated stranded playing on their phone watching Debbie cakes and sipping on coffee just to center punch a deer at 75 yd with a 30-06 and some cor looks odd a rest and watch it run off for 50yd -100yd they will say that's "real " hunting and perfectly fine.... But then see a LR who been hiking and glassing around for a few hours dial in and high shoulder a deer at 600yd from the prone with a bipod and rear bag and some some custom whatever and bang flop him then that's highly unethical and not hunting.... Idk I get if your like a trad bow hunter who's potting and stalking deer to with 20yd or a hand gun hunter doing similar, I get how they can say LR hunting isn't hunting but billy bob " I've been running off the same 20rd for the last 5yrs stand hunter ??...yeah no homie I mean I see so many will say " I would never shoot past " I wouldn't ". I ,I, I think some people don't understand not everyone is them . Most of the LR guys I talk to shoot more in an after noon practicing and collecting dope then the average guy does in a few seasons . Like their beyond serious that whole " well just XYZ " don't work in that world... Alot of them are bow hunters too believe it or not....anyhow I'm rambling now It's weird here . Can go from shotgun country to 400yd shots within 100yd . Not even joking How many deer u shot wolfie? Just curious, you've comment some about ideas on shooting deer but I've never heard you talk about deer hunting . I mean, IDK but it would be kind of weird if you would be commenting on a subject you have little experience with.

Just curious, you've comment some about ideas on shooting deer but I've never heard you talk about deer hunting . I mean, IDK but it would be kind of weird if you would be commenting on a subject you have little experience with. Like I've told you before,No deer hunting down here dosent really do anything for me . Have sat in the stands had em in the scope and just...egh never really had the desire to pull the trigger on one. That being said when I see one across the pasture looking at me feeling all safe at 400 that does do a little something. But I'm not 100% confident in my abilities and gear to make to shots just yet That being siad he don't mention what he's after and this isn't a deer hunting post. He asked about LR hunting. Also you don't have to be a master hunter or whatever to just state what you always see , which in this cases was the type of people who like to try and say stuff about LR usually and the general deal it always seem to be. It's just stating what usually happens. Like when someone comes on and says something about not drowning and front footing beaver. Majority of the comments will be how you need to down the beaver and target the back door. Just how it is. If I say something about a new caliber alot of people are gonna rush to say how it's been done before reinventing the wheel yadda yadda . Same when it comes to LR hunting and similar. I mean my little brother reads though the forum and will make bets about what will be said on what

I have seen a few guys that can shoot a loooong ways. Whats ethical is knowing your own limits and not worrying about what your neighbor does. ^ THIS have taken deer from 6 to 1350 yards.

When I was younger I could make those cross canyon shots by sitting on my but and putting my elbows on my knees. Could get down in a hurry. I can still shoot like that but getting down and back up takes awhile. Climbing up and walking the top of a ridge wears me out. I mostly sit and wait now. I still will hunt heavy cover in a good wind during the middle of the day with an open sighted 30-30. Wind in my face. Walk a couple steps and stop for a bit. Stay in cover.

I smoked a coyote at a half mile with my 22-250 using my truck mirror for a rest. I admit, it was mostly luck, but dead is dead.

In Alaska, the longest shot I ever made was about 400 yards on a caribou on open tundra. I was firing prone and there was only a slight breeze. The caribou was trotting (faster than a man's run), but he and I were the only things more than knee high for several miles, not counting a few trees in the draws. I wouldn't have taken the shot if there was any noticeable wind. In Alaska at least, the wind can gust in one speed and direction where the shooter is, and a different direction and speed where the animal is. I don't know how to dope that out.
In Africa, the longest shot I made was on a kudu at 280 yards. The PH said he wouldn't want clients to shoot any farther than that.
My longest shot in Ohio was just about 50 yards on a buck deer.
