Bought this in the 70’s to load for my dads 308. Hever shot more than 5-6 rounds a year. Just loaded and shot some 223 with it. Worked just fine. 62 grain fmj and 22.5 grains of powder. Can is almost full.

Powder lasts for decades if stored at a stable room temperature.

I have a few jugs of old herculese shotgun powder that was my papaws and it still works fine. Herco, unigue and green green dot and they are in the old cardboard jugs. Have to be close to 40 years old or more. Have been using rifle primers that are at least that old also

I’ve got some that’s 30-40 years old also. Haven’t had any problems. Jeff Hoffman owns Black Hills ammo and the only thing he told me was older powder can be a little more potent so don’t start high. It smells rotten when it’s bad.

I forget which powder Manuel I read it in what and referring to shelflife they reported that a quantity of unique that . was stored underwater since the late 1800s when tested with a closed bomb test prove just as viable as newly manufactured
When checking powder with a smell test ether equals good . Acrid acidic equals bad.
Visually normal color with shiny equals good red rusty color equals bad

If you leave the cap open for a while and you can see vapors coming up. It's time to toss it. My dad had one setting out in the yard as a conversation piece.

Truthfully, I lost everything I own a year ago in a fire. Only 3 guns survived and that's cuz they stay with me or in the truck. If I replaced the guns ammo and reloading equipment that was lost, it would be well over 40k. Lost much more than that, but I'm just thankful to still have my family.
