This is my 2nd year trapping. I can't seem to catch a coyote in a foothold. They walk right by them and pay no attention. A couple people on hear told me to use snares. Been putting a lot of snares out and it seems it's starting to pay off. I try to do what these guys say.

You can run footholds in the same spots as you do snares...except for fences as that just results in snapped traps. If you run drags or cable the traps off to trees theres really not a difference in the amount of work to put in a blind foothold vs a snare. Just that traps are heavier to haul and more expensive. Once you learn to snare coyotes effectively, it really helps your footholding of coyotes because if you pay attention to the spots you are catching coyotes in snares, you realize they're not always in the spots where your told to look to set traps for coyotes.

Very nice! Snares are awesome. If we could use decent cables here they are all I would run once the snow hits.

If I may make a suggestion , if you set your snare under that leaning pole quit that as that is a deer magnet and instead of jumping over it they are more inclined to duck under it and get caught then the rodeo begins !

Congratulations on your first snared coyote it'll get much easier now , if you think a spot looks good for a snare set one there it pays off in the end .

Allan

Maybe so , however deer can do some of the dumbest things when you least expect it .

I swear one of the first things a whitetail or mule deer doe teaches its fawn is to crawl under things .
Just a few words from the wise you can do as you wish .

I'd rather you kept on good speaking terms with the land owner and game warden then to accidentally get a deer in a snare and have someone either write a ticket and or you deal with loss of a property to trap and snare on , that and out here at least farmers and ranchers talk , good news travels fast but bad news travels even faster !
