Has that changed your overall view of the bible?

I made a goal to read it front to back and I did. The first part is a story about a family and how God provided for them. The second part is a story of how God provided for us.

I try to read daily, but can't always get it done. I like to to read the Bible very early in the morning when my girls are asleep and even the birds haven't woke up. Those precious, precious, moments in the early morning when it is just you and your thoughts.

100% agree. A lot of the the OT is hard to follow because it is out of chronological order. Really have to study the Bible to get it figured out. For example, Job is probably the oldest book in the Bible, but it's the 18th Book of the Bible. I also like Ruth; it is a blessing, and screams our Lord Jesus Christ.

So does the whole of the Bible talk about how got provided for his whole family. Or his creation.

Is there a difference? For me Giant Sage, the OT lays out a foundation of why we need a redeemer. The NT fulfills it.
In Genesis, God killed animals to cloth Adam and Eve after the Genesis 3 curse. Adam probably named most of those animals, and I believe back then, he may have even be able to communicate with them. It had to be a heckuva thing to see the Creator "kill" for the first time, skin them, and use their coats to clothe them. To me, God was teaching them a very, very, very, important lesson back in Genesis......, and that is, only by the shedding of innocent blood would they be covered.

Same holds true to us today with the Blood and Sacrifice of Jesus Christ. How else can a Holy and Just God reconcile the sin of man?

I started reading from Genesis to Revelations. I was tickled to death when I finally made it through Leviticus . Dry reading. By Lent, I should be in the Gospels. That was the goal. I think once I finish I may try to do the same but with the Douy-Rheims version cause , clearly, I love a struggle.

For those who are slightly intimidated by picking up the Good Book and jumping right in, there is a great book called "The Story" that I would highly recommend. It's basically a cliff notes version of the bible that reads like a novel. You can find it cheap on Amazon or Ebay.

I read it every few years as a kind of refresher.

Doesn't hit all the points, but its a great way to ease in.

And for those who do refer the the Bible daily, its a great take on it. At least in my opinion.

I have been reading a chapter a day as part of my morning meditations since 1990. At 1 verse per day it takes between 4.5 and 6 years to complete the two testements. I am on my 6th or 7th journey,

Feels controversial to say you don't like the KJV in some circles, doesn't it? I agree though: if you can't read it, get a different translation! Nothing wrong with that. For getting nerdy, it's wise to read multiple translations and even figure out some Hebrew and Greek, but if you just need to read, you've got to have something that you can, indeed, read.



Any of you avid Bible-readers ever read in the Tanak order? The people that wrote and/or curated what we call the OT didn't put it in chronological order...not that it's bad to do so, but it's worth trying it in the way they intended (it's also the way that the NT authors and Jesus seem to refer to it). Their intention wasn't simply to tell you what happened in a logical and linear fashion (which is often how we want to read it). Their primary intention was to convey they meaning and significance of the things that happened, that's why the non-chronological order worked for them.

I suppose the most important thing is to read it. I have to admit though, I am having a tough time getting started this year. I guess I'm just in a bit of a funk. I just can't get started but I know I will regret not getting it done. I guess it isn't always easy.

The Bible is the only book that reads you. What I mean is, the Holy Spirit occupies the word, and will show you what you need as you read. If God is trying to show me how to be more grateful, I will see that theme repeatedly as I read scripture. If he is interested in showing me how to be more loving, I'll see that theme every where. It's like he highlights what you need when you need it, if you are willing to pay attention.

Read very little throughout my first 61 years. Then shortly after my 61st birthday in 2018 I began reading first thing every morning. In the first few months I missed maybe 6 mornings. Since then I’ve not missed one day.
I read beginning on page 1 through Revelations. King James Version. Then repeat.
In those 5+ years I’ve read the complete Bible 16 times and halfway through my 17th time.
It has changed my life.
Each time through each chapter I gain new understanding.

That's a great testimony of a changed man.
