Another good check on the same spot. Reds are surprisingly still real nice. I hate mixing land and water and I’m ready to pull them though. More than half way to my otter limit and I haven’t started on rat spots yet. I’ll be dodging otter when I am on rats.

Another nice boatload today. 11 beaver, 1 nutria, 1 rat. Would have had 12 beaver but the Belisle that had a beaver by the two front feet yesterday….pegged one today.

Pulled my line and started getting a new one out about 30 miles downstream.

I hear you on the mixing of land line and water line. I swore to myself last year that I was money ahead to just focus on beaver and forget the land line stuff. But when you have a plethora of beaver carcasses to deal with it seems only natural to place them out in the woods and catch some spots with 'em.

Our limit on otter is 10. I’ll be doing my best to avoid them come rat spot setting. I suspect I’ll be at 10 while beaver trapping

NF, I'm curious about your Herkimer sale. Are most of your buyers crafters/tanners or buying for the fur trade? I remember your results last year on your larger sized beaver really got my juices going getting ready for my sale.

Good luck this weekend!

Everything that is going to the sale is lotted and bagged.

BP, there is a young couple that seem to be interested in unique colors and skunks and such. But I believe most of the buyers are fur buyers. Last year there was a buyer that had a heavy accent, maybe French, not sure, but his presence was good for my numbers, hope he comes again and brings a few of his buddies .

Finally decent weather and the river is dropping 6" a night for the next few days. Perfect for what I do! It was 62F today and ended up getting 4 beaver out of the 5 sets I made yesterday. Put out another 20 sets today. River is still extremely high, but the good part is beavers are out marking spots where they can. I only set on fresh sign so action is nearly certain at most every set.

The word is GFW has dropped their beaver prices a bit. At least their dealers have.
I didn’t like hearing that.

Bit slower on beavs this check, maybe wind was off a tad on the lures sets. Another check or so and I’ll pull all my channel sets. Every otter has been a male so far this season.

Interesting…I’ve been hearing prices moving a bit north on beaver. Some of the country collectors are up to $20/lb as of two weeks ago. Maybe it’s a northern vs southern issue.

15 beaver on today’s run from 25 traps. Should’ve been a little better so I changed up my castor for tomorrow.

Not a kit in the bunch.
