So this pass couple weeks have been rough. My daughter who is 7 started having heart problems. She came in to her mom's office who is the school nurse with her heart racing and beating all out of whack. A few minutes later her mom got it under control and just thought it was a fluke thing, few days later she had another episode same thing heart racing funny beating, but she complained of her chest hurting and shortness of breath. Well we was concerned then, so made her a Dr appointment, I took her they did blood work, ekg, and x rays to rule out things. Came home the next day to a message on the answering machine that they had referred us to a cardiologist at children's hospital.. with how late it was we couldn't get the reason why, so needless to say we didn't sleep much. Next day wife called and asked for the results and what why a cardiologist. They informed her our daughter has a heart defect that was from birth called wolf Parkinson white syndrome. So the wife went in to research mode, and read things that I don't understand but worse case situations and was freaking out. You know the it's your kid and can't do anything to fix it so you dont know what ro do but freak. so afterwards she called the cardiologist and asked what she needed to do during and episode he gave her advise and she is better now with some better understanding. But he said don't hold her back let her be normal. Let her be active because it be better for her body. I think it isn't as bad as we have it built up at first. Couple of weeks hope to get better understanding... anyways today was a great day for a ride so momma and her went on the trail while dad did farm chores. Opens a dads eyes when things like this come along big or small.

So this is one of her norms. Was real proud of her too wife's horse was in heat, so he had other things on his mind and she showed him who was boss today and made him listen, even though he had other things on his mind. She is growing up into a little cowgirl.

Not much they can’t do something about today but parents get that helpless feeling good luck moving forward and keep us posted.

Beautiful young lady! Kids are usually stronger than we give them credit for, and modern medicine can do great things. And I see you spending A LOT of money on tack and new horses as she is growing up.

That is the best thing you can do , give her that kind of happiness. AND.....horses are therapy too-the whole body engages in automatic involuntary balancing and movements . Makes for great circulation, fresh air, vit D which does wonders for health. Many people ride therapy for pain control and skeletal relaxing of stiff painful back, nerves, etc. The subtle movements just at a walk does wonders in healing all kinds of ailments, or helping them feel much better to cope.

Is that a velcro tie in on her leg ? Lots of pony saddles and therapy adult saddles have that very good aid to staying balanced.

Good thing you both now know what needs to be done. Healing and good early treatment is on the way now.

I was diagnosed with WPW as an adult. It was cured/ corrected by a cardiac ablation.

Sharon ya it's velcro, call them sticky butts at our house.. When she is on the trail I put her in them, I have her stirrups up all the way and even blocks taped in but they are just long enough when her feet slip out and she is so little hard to keep her butt in the saddle. She needs to grow just a tad bit longer legs, when she is in the arena where it's not as bumpy she don't wear them, honestly most of the time she comes back with them off she hates them. But she likes to get up in a trot and I think they are more for me then her.
she is learning but each ride she getting better and gaining more confidence just want to keep her in the saddle and not bounce out.

Ring tail I don't think the wife wants to do that, depending on what the cardiologist says. Just a scary thought for them to go into your daughter's heart. But Alicia seen that was an option and these days and age you can go through a groin I think it was so no opening up.

She probably wants to begin learning to post at the trot. Which means she HAS to have the bum unstuck for that riding style.

Everyone posts, the best cowboys on earth in full western gear also post. I have ridden for all day long many times , in endurance training and eventing, at a brisk post trot.

Now is the time for her to learn that very easy style. She will love it. Especially on a rough gaited horse .

I did all that at her age. Speed was my game. Still is. My Dad loved it, as he was a speedster too , in rodeo.

No worries, she is growing like a weed and her legs will need the length in stirrup in no time.

This is the perfect thing to have her happy, and all the family enjoying it together. Good happy goals and distraction from worrying too much. She will be fine.

Yes, mine was performed through a small incision in my groin. Much like a heart catheterization, except I was under general anesthesia.

A distraction that's what momma needed as well.. she all about speed as well, I'm trying to talk her in to learning break away roping. Dad would think that be cool, not sure if she does ( yet!) LOL not sure if I'll get my way or not but whatever she wants to do. She has expressed interest in barrels. And I think this year she has rode enough and big enough for the pee wee barrels. Plus her horse is more woo then go, so she can learn. And grow into mommas horse. Or get another if she gets into it.

Well if she wants fun running barrels, she may like this shot for inspiration. This was my first barrel horse. He was small , fast and fun. When I grew up more I was able to graduate to my father's Poco/King line Quarter horses. His lines were sought after in the rodeo and Congress show circuit. Runnin with the big horses. I could have used that sticky butt Velcro !

I may have had thee or four times where my heart was racing. I thought it was a panic attack. What sent me to a doctor was when I passed out. The doctor diagnosed it right away with an EKG.

I hope she's able to heal from it and it doesn't cause any more problems. That sounds scary! Sunshine, fresh air, and a loving family is the best medicine you can give a kid. And it Sounds like you have that covered! Thanks for sharing the picture! She is a cutie.

WPW is an electrical issue. Not sure what if any meds they offer to minimize the incidents where the rhythm gets out of whack.

I had a different kind of rhythm issue, A-Fib and the medication helped minimize the episodes and the severity of the episodes but I still had them along with the increased risk of clots forming. They have made great strides with the ablation procedures and I opted to have the ablation to cure my A-Fib and get off the meds. That was somewhat scary at the time but it has turned out to be a good decision for me.
