Sustain boluses down the throat two every three days. Baytril shot or pills also. I have two calves just like him minus pneumonia right now. If it starts rattling bad in the lungs and getting worse I've gave them micotil but it will kill some dead quick once you inject it. Don't inject none in your self cause it kills people dead quick also.

I would do the same thing, Cathryn. I couldn’t just give up on him. He will be worth it. Some of the most amazing stories for the heart come from these situations.

Draxxin does wonders on pneumonia.

I’d give him free choice water and grain but wouldn’t push either one. Unless he scours, he’ll get enough water from the milk replacer mix. Most calves won’t hardly touch the feed for the first couple weeks anyway.

Did he get a full dose of colostrum at birth? If not, it’ll be a long uphill battle. How’s his suckling reflex? It’s tough when they don’t want to nurse at all. If you’re still feeding every 4 hrs, back him off to 12 hrs. If he feels full all the time he may just not want to eat. Make him get a little hungry and he should take off

I had a holstein heifer that had no suckling reflex at all. I tubed her twice a day for almost 10 days. I was getting tired of that. It took her 2 missed feedings, then bam, she figured it out pretty quick.

Making the transition from tubing to bottle is not fun. I tended to tube too much. Keep them hungry and thirsty but water available in a bucket with some good quality starter feed free choice. I also syringed some water with electrolytes around the mouth and rubbed under their jaws to increase sucking. Start with a small nippled bottle and not much at a time in it with good quality replacer or colostrum supplement if he hasnt had that. Dehydration usually kills most when they decide they are done. Its frustrating tubing one for a week when they wont ttake a bottle. Some live and take to sucking or drinking out of a bucket and some seems to give up...........be prepared for either - it happens. Keep them warm, dry and hydrated. I believe ther rest is up to the calf and God.

He's not doing well.
Yesterday I couldn't get him to stand at all. I have been working his.legs and turning him regularly.so tha he won't lose circulation in his legs.
This morning he showed signs of thw beginning of scours so I held off on a bottle this morning.

Do any of yall have any suggestions?

His stool wad regular yesterday.

I gave him electolytes yesterday but nothing today.

I don't want him to die but ingesting discouraged cause I've done all I know to do.

I gave him penicillin again last night and some NSAIDS.

Hes rattling in his chest.

Ant help would be much appreciated.

Why haven't you called the vet if you want it to survive?

If he's saveable, I can save him. I don't give up easy and he's a fighter

We always got ours on the bucket after a week. Put some mollasses on your finger tips and let him suck them. Then lower them slowly into the bucket and he will start drinking. It may take a few times but he should be on a bucket already.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

At this point I would start to be more concerned about HIS life quality and the potential of suffering vs the quest of saving him without the aid of aggressive veterinary medicine. I’m not saying that he needs put down, but if he dies badly; you may be in for a lot of heartache and guilt.

Hes.still got his feet under him and his head up and eyes are clear. He just sounds rattly. He responds to my voice and his name.

I will not let him suffer when theres no hope

I have nursed back enough lambs and other assorted animals to know when it's time to put an animal down cause there's no hope.

I got him some new electrolytes.

Well see what happens.

Randall, they'd gladly give him to me but im.not set up to handle a steer and dang sure not a bull.

Well you can make him a steer pretty quick, not much to do but keep trying to get him on the bucket and away from the tube I always hated tubing them because it’s really easy to pour the milk in the lungs instead of the stomach.

Lil Bub is much improved this morning. I gave him more electolytes and set out with him a good.part of the night talking to him and petting and just touching him so he'd know I was there pulling for him.

I went.out this.morning. he was trying to stand, I got him up but he was wobbly..he stood for.maybe 10.minites or so and I helped him.lay back down.

He no longer has the scours..holding off his feed really helped and a gave him antablespoon of raw apple.cider vinegar..the combo did the trick.

He.could.still die but he's a fighter and I will not give up in him as.long as he has the will to live, I have the will to help him to survive.

I told Jerry I wasn't a sure why i.was fighting so hard for him to survive when he'll just end up slaughtered but he deserves a chance.

It's not his fault he got sick and his mama didn't want him.

He's a fighter, that's for sure and ya gotta respect that, even in animals, imo.

He's getting to me......

I ain't giving up on him, no way
