I once asked a long time furbuyer here, who tans a lot of stuff, who his favorite tanner was? His answer was, the one he wasn't mad at at that moment. Moyles ain't perfect either. However, they never totally ruined anything yet. I'd expect problems, and if they aren't major, you did good.

Who is John Galt?

I've used Moyles, Tubari and Sleepy Creek. I will never use or recommend Sleepy Creek again. Sleepy Creek butchered a dozen otters that were immaculate in their put up and had no defects or blemishes They were picked out of my season's catch to have a bomber jacket made for myself. Those otters came back absolutely butchered! So much so that they couldn't be used for their intended purpose. Never again.

All tannerys have a certain percentage of fur blowout in some stage of the process for various reasons. The long time tannerys have very small percentage of blowout but still have some.
Good tannerys like international in Winnipeg will repair any defects caused in the process when possible(like rips),and often they repair some that are not caused by the tannery.

I think so many people in the midwest use Sleepy Creek because they can save on shipping. And a lot of trappers wouldnt know a good tan from a bad one anyways. Those that do however, rarely have anything bad to say about Moyles, myself included.

Sleepy creek sent me a young whitetail hide in place of my mule deer hide and then said he would send me a refund if I sent the hide back. Sent the hide back and never received the refund. I think I will continue to go to Moyles. Moyles tanning is far superior as well.
