What is the best tannery. Would like to send a little bit of fur to get tanned, but I only know of a couple near by.

I’ve sent fur to sleepy creek in Iowa the last couple of years and will do so again this year. Great place to deal with. They get all my business.

Moyles does great work. Stay away from USA Foxx, they're a mess thought they stopped even taking raw furs?

How long dose it normally take to get your furs back Typically depends on when you send it in but 6 mo is a good guess and most tanneries. You can pay extra for a little quicker turn around at some of them.

For Moyles, hide needs to be properly fleshed and dried, correct? Whereas Sleepy will do fleshing, and even skinning, for a fee of course. I’m not skilled nor have the time to do a full put-up (sorry Boco!), so I have used Sleepy for beaver, muskrat, coyote, otter and gray fox. And will be sending them a coon, grinner, and bobcat this year. Hides are nice and soft when they come back, my only complaint is the ears seem to get flattened and deformed, not sure if that’s me doing something wrong or just the nature of the beast with the tanning process? Curious if anyone has thoughts on this?
I’ve been sayin yes sir all day at work, I’ve been sayin yes ma’am at home…

moyles. sleepy creek absolutely butchered my first and only attempt to use them last yr. was bad enough the owner called me personally. Sleepy Creek sliced my son’s first otter to ribbons on the fleshing wheel and put holes in some beaver. Tried them the next year on beaver with the same result. That one was my fault and I learned my lesson. I now send fur every year to Leo at Z&L and never ever had a problem. Great guy and work with a fast turnaround.

I'm another one who has had poor results from Sleepy Creek. Sent in a dozen beaver and it looked like they used an ax to shave the back with. Called them on it and they assured me it wouldn't happen again and I was stupid enough to fall for it. Now I have two dozen tanned beaver that are garbage. Shipping is expensive but I will be sending my furs to Moyles from now on.
