Places that do hundreds of oil changes a week are probably pretty good at it.
Much better than joe blow who only does it once or twice a year.
YOU WOULD THINK
they might even get 95% right but they are all about speed how fast can they do it that is how you make money on an oil change when your paying the guy doing it 11 dollars an hour and the guy working at the McDonalds next door is making 15.
they don't measure the oil they have a hose down from the ceiling they dial in an amount if they just did 12 cars in a row that take 4.5 quarts and they get to yours and you need 7.5 you might well be 3 quarts short.
they are not checking anything they don't sell so while they are checking that the air filter they want to sell you for 70 dollars +20 to install( but ahh they had to take the old one out to look at it so what install they have to put it back if you say no) that you can buy at Napa for 25 is dirty they aren't greasing anything nor telling you about your hung up brake caliper or transmission leak or anything else.
some of them went to sucking the oil out because the had so many drain plug issues the replacement engines was costing them too much.
they make about nothing on that oil change it is a loss leader they make $ on the up sell , a system flush , an air filter .
joe I have been working on my own car 30 years has one filter number to keep , he triple checks the drain plug , he measures the oil , he checks it after starting the car .
so Joe's mess up sure but Joe isn't trying to set keep up to the pace of every 12 minutes while hitting his thc vape.
