I've noticed over the years that when I have a product that is out of stock or nearly so, I'll get more orders than normal for that item. For instance, I'm out of the Evaluation of Lures, Baits and Urine book. It's being reprinted now, but I won't have it for another month or so. I'm constantly getting orders for that book now more so than normal. I just find it odd that it happens.

People want what they can't have (or get). Whether they need it or not. It is a hot commodity, people gotta have it.

You could make the worst (insert product here) ever and if you spread a rumor that it was super hard to find, step aside and hang on!

scarcity mentality. not a bad thing most times but with some things it makes people do weird things see covid toilet paper run and bread and milk when the word snow is mentioned.

You think maybe since trapping is slow now people have more time to experiment with new related things like making lures and baits?

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

that would be my guess.

"so what if my coon catch suffers because of my [failed] new super lure/bait?"...

No one knew it was out of stock. I didn't put that in my catalog.

This book isn't about how to make lure, just how to test it.

It's not only this book. I've noticed when I'm unexpectedly out of a particular lure, I'll begin getting more orders for it than normal. No one would know I was out of, because it was a surprise to me too. I'll think that I have another bucket of it to bottle only to find out it is also an empty bucket. Most of my lures aren't the cake mix type where you mix the ingredients and the lure is ready to bottle. They tend to take months to develop. I probably need to get a better handle on inventory so I'm better prepared.

That is one of the unexplainable laws - just like if you have one socket missing, that is the one you need

That is odd Paul. Weird stuff that the mega supply companies like Amazon have somehow started to figure out. Wild how they use analytics to predict who and where folks will order stuff.

Its called Murpys law. When I had my bar in the Canary islands, I could sit there for an hour without anyone coming in. Then 8 or more folks would walk in the door that did not even know each other and all of them wanted the same thing and I would have to spring into action to get it all done.
I tell my boating folks not to wait till spring to do engine services, but do them throughout the winter ....... nope they all wait till the end of March and then have to wait as my schedule is full with engine services. Most sail boaters do not understand that they don't own the only boat in a marina. And that a engine service on a 60 foot sport fish with a couple of big cats in it takes longer than their little solo engine that just takes a gallon of oil.

Let's go Brandon

"Shall not comply" with morons who don't understand "shall not infringe."

I know I try to keep good tabs on our inventory. But every now and then when you think you have things covered, you realized something got overlooked. But when it does, it can be a problem with running out of stock for a while.

Like Paul stated, most products in the fur trapping line can take many months to many years to complete the aging/blending process.

I looked at a bucket label sticker just yesterday, when we had our bottling gal working. She asked if we had any more of the lure that she was bottling since that bucket was near empty.

I said there should be, and yes there were 2 more buckets with the same name and date.

The date on her bucket lid was from Feb.5, 2020. So that is 4 years on that product to the day.

compare it to 22lr

guy never had more than 150 rounds in his life becuase he bought it a 50 round box at a time and the hardware store alwasy had his brand sitting in the same spot behind the counter just asked when he started running low and was at the store for nails or nuts and bolts.
2013 and he starts on his last 50 round box with coons in the hay loft and stops a the hardware and not only is his brand not there but no brand is there , nothing

now he needs 3 bricks and if he sees a 4th at a good price in 2014 he is buying that one also oh and come 2015 he sees his brand and load so he buys 3 of those also

he now has 4 lifetimes of what he has shot in the past 20 years

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Paul and Bob, seems to me you two should start a new thread and discuss all the products you are “running low on.” Lol

I've bought plants and other items off of Etsy and EBay, where the listing says last one, in the official counter and within at least a few minutes of purchasing the item, another one pops up.

It happens with small quantities of items listed too. I bought the last 4 lingonberry bushes from one seller, of several varieties, to immediately have 4 more available.

The feeling of competition often drives people to buy. That's why EBay and Etsy will send you messages like "7 other people have this in your cart." or "8 other people are watching this item."

Keith

Kinda the same when you buy a different vehicle. Ya never notice a particular model/year, then ya buy one and it seems like their everywhere!
