Had both eyes done and there is a thread in the Health forum about my experience.
But I will address you specific lens question here. I went with the standard distance correction lens for both eyes. The expensive lens that helps with near and far is a compromise and does not does not do a real good job on either distance. At least that is the way my Dr explained it to me. I had been seeing him for years and I trusted his opinion.
What I was really surprised about was the improvement I got in near vision with the standard far distance lens. My surgery was in 2020 and I have not worn glasses since. I do need a little help on occasion in low light, small print but my vision still checks 20/20 without correction.

There is a basic, $0 if you have Health Ins which SHOULD pay for it, basic lens plus $1500 PE, Toric $2500 PE, and expanded Range of Vision Lens $3500 PE. Your HI may pay for some of the cost(s). If you've worn glasses many years, you will definitely see an improvement and be glad you had it done! :-)

I paid cash to have it done to my left eye as it had an astigmatism that was getting worse. Although it was just beginning to get a cataract it wasn’t nearly far enough along for insurance to cover it. Super easy procedure and some of the best money I’ve ever spent.

With the exception of needing over the counter grasses for reading -skinning. I've heard negative stories about the full correction lenses. I now have slightly better than 2020 distance vision. Before I was living in a fog and couldn't drive at knight.

After recent visit to optometrist I learned that cataract had progressed and corrective lens would not sharpen up vision so the next option is surgery. Has any one had the surgery and what type of lens did you opt for? My research on the surgery indicated that you could elect to have vision corrected for distance but would need reading glasses for close work. There is another optional lens that corrects for near and far vision, at additional cost of course. Looking for some first hand experience. Thanks
I had mine done. My problem was nighttime driving. Signs and oncoming cars were too glaring due to cataracts. I went with the first option you mentioned. The surgery was well worth doing. I do need reading glasses, but my long distance sight is still 20/20 and I have no problem with night driving anymore.
My wife wants me to wear a bracelet that belonged to her grandfather. It says, "Do Not Resuscitate".
