I have trapped nuisance skunks for many years
for my friends and neighbors at all times of the
year with live box traps.

Being somewhat in a demented & forgetful state
of mind lately, I seem to have forgotten what is
the more effective bait during the breeding season.

This question has probably been asked before
but any helpful advice would be appreciated.

Neighbor lady was invaded last night with
humping skunks firing off two batches of
aromatic perfume in her crawl space
under her front porch.

As one of the go-to, famous, nuisance
skunk tamers of Henderson Harbor, N.Y.
she recruited me this morning to rescue her.

I found four active points of entry
around her old field stone foundation
so I'm ready to deploy into battle with
the stink pussies.

What baits should I try ?

I'm not an expert but skunky lures and baits will catch 2 to 1 against anything for me. Skunks are looking for others of their kind this time of year and what smells more like a skunk than essence. Plus when fighting for breeding rights they always spray so that smell I would assume signals opportunity

I have no idea. But this made me wonder if skunks can tell the difference between other individual skunks form the sent left behind? Beaver and k 9 can makes me wonder about skunk.

No bait at all. Drop cages surrounding the entry and get them coming and going. The bait is already there, the hot female.

Get a lure that smells like asphalt. I see them squashed on the road all the time!!

Chanel number 5 worked for my buddy Pepe!

I get all my best trapping ideas from Warner Brothers. I say put a back cat with a white stripe painted on it's back in the back of your cage for Pepe.

Crack open a small can of sardines.Eat a couple to fight your high cholesterol,and place the can under the cage.
make a trailing scent with the oil before installation.

My sister in law likes Anchovies on her Pizza. Just a little word of advice, Sardines are not a good substitute.

Sardines work well like Boco said and so do marshmallows.I use both at the same time reguardless of time of year.

Pros Choice always worked well for me. Make it like a good dirthole coyote set and it works great

I have good luck with Chicken Wings in the winter . Mini Marshmallows as a trailing sent . Large marshmallows with grub paste rest of the year.

I set 8 baitless cages in front of entry under deck yesterday. Had four skunks this morning. 3 going in, one coming out. I expect a few more tomorrow.

There's Not always Entries to trap

Sometimes it's a Farm building with the door s left open for 18 cats

...so strategic skunk tube traps are needed & Bait required that isn't a cat attractant.

One rancher fed dozens of cats at his place mini marshmallows helped keep the cat cage catch down to a minimum.

See if you can go online and find some of Kamalas underwear ...... that should get a skunk or five out of the woodwork
