Came across this set while watching youtube videos. Looks like it's pretty weatherproof and would work well for the spring. With the pipe in the ground the way the guy used it, not sure how it would keep the coyote from approaching on the back side of the set. Was thinking of using it up against a backing. Don't have any haylage so was thinking about using it with cut up leaves on the edge of a woodline. Any advise or recomendations about this set?

Pipe Dream for Coyotes

It works if you follow Zag’s method. There’s a lot of folks who call it a Pipe Dream set because they use a pipe. The name means nothing, it’s the bedding method that works.

Caught a nice female with one a week or so ago. This was in an area that is a little low lying, but a travel pattern and with all the rain we've been getting it's even more wet than normal this time of year. I have a trail cam on the set and she was working at getting "into" the pipe pretty hard when she stepped on the pan.

They also make trap prep a little easier. Most of us probably carry a drill and auger to dig a whole, while this is just a light piece of 2" pvc cut down to about 7 to 9 inches. You probably have some scrap laying around or can get some at lowes for like $8 and cut it into about 4 or 5 sections.

It only works if you take a big drink of fox or coyote urine while you make the set. I've seen Mark do it. That's the big secret to the set!!!

Don't over think the set. Simple and easy.

Just remember the pipe dream set is more about the bedding system not really the pipe. Alot of folk look at it and try and make it a glorified coon set thing the pipe is supposed to be the main attraction. It's not, it's just a weather resistant lure /bait holder. As far as the pipe goes shove it in a gras clump or something

The pipe dream set is my most productive flat set , when done right the bedding method ( even though my version is a little different ) is fantastic. I hide the pipe and make sure it is driven in the ground tight enough to keep a coyote moving his feet while trying to pull it out of the ground.

P.S. I use this bedding method on all my sets.

Seems like the distance from pipe to trap pan would be more important/helpful than the length of pipe, or schedule.

Schedule 40 is so you can hammer it without breaking it.

And since your only exposing about 2 to 3” of pipe the trap is only an inch or two from the pipe.

It’s like everything. Has pluses and minuses.

For me, it’s more about the pipe,,,,,, once the ground freeze’s rock solid. It’s impossible to chip out the perfect trap bed


At that point I’ll bed trap in wax dirt complete with steel screen
