I dug up some dirt in the woods I'll be trapping. Even though it's been pretty dry, the dirt is still a little wet. Looks like I have some sand in there also. Anyone dry the dirt on low heat before making wax dirt? I'm going to attempt to make 5 gallons of dirt in a turkey roaster. Wondering if I should scrap the ideal or dry what I have. Hopefully I can use it. Was kind of a pain in my (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) to dig and sift it. LOL.

I use heat lamps I don’t wax it until it’s totally dry and the powder dirt is removed I like my dirt course for drainage. I see guys complaining their wax dirt molded on them I’d say the dirt was never completely dried before waxing it.

It has to be bone dry befor you wax it. Some one wrote an extensive 2 part article in the Fur Taker not long ago about waxing dirt.

Youtube has good info on wax dirt. Sand or dirt has to b dry. I use 1 to 5 ratio.(wax/dirt.)

Regardless how dry I think my dirt or sand may be, I always dry it (solar) before adding any wax to it.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

The pile I dig mine from is mostly sand, kind of a dark/dirty sand. I dump it out on a tarp in the garage and turn a fan on it. After a while, I stir it with a rake, let dry again. I keep this up until I can rake it and not see any darker colored sand. Spread it think and it dries a lot faster.
