This will continue to happen without allowing cougars to be hunted with hounds. Back when hound hunting was legal, the vast majority of treed cougars were not shot. Most cougars were treed, then the houndsmen showed up and pulled the dogs off the tree. This conditioned the cougars to avoid humans.

They say only two people have been killed by cougars in the last 100 years. That does not take into account those bodies that were never found. Every year there are hikers in Washington who have gone missing, never to be found. I can guarantee that some of those are cougar victims.

Yet just like Florida and their Tree Huggers they outlawed Bear Hunting and now have Bears invading Playgrounds now WHY aren't the Tree Huggers held accountable.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

Wow! So riding a bike makes you a “bunny snuggler”?

I’ll pass that info along to all the hunters on the local bike club, lol. What better way to scout and mark possible land to check. Some of y’all need to see the rest of the world instead of the liberal states y’all live.

Sounds like a similar story on wolves. It’s unreal how they try to steer towards bear or something else. Heck, they’ll look towards Bigfoot before wolves sometimes….lol

They try to make it sound rare by using the words "last 100 years" when the truth is they all happened the last 20 years. Not rare at all.

Don't live in a liberal state but each new gun law that goes into effect I wish more and more I did. Never connected the fanny pack wearing cyclist to the sad state of affairs in MI. Thanks for connecting the dots Wanna Be. Makes a lot more sense now!

Back to the subject. Anyone remember when the MDNR insisted there were no cougars in the UP? Even when tracks, scat, and even trail cam footage was provided as proof. They don't deny now. These predators are stealthy killing machines and people need to wake up to the danger.

Yeah, these guys are into biking, some type of trail riding deal. They’ll train and travel for different competitions. Of course down here there’s really nothing to worry about as far predators and being on a bike, but I know most carry even when riding. If I’m ride for 50 miles or so I’m taking the truck, lol. These fools do it for fun. For a lot it started out as just exercise due to bad knees, then it got serious.

For the general protection of society KNOWN PREDATORY ANIMALS NEED TO BE HUNTED DOWN and dispatched.
Fear of humans is generally an inheritable genetic trait but can also be learned. When predatory animals are not hunted, predators that are not genetically fearful of humans, or have not learned to be fearful of humans, do well on the abundance of food close to people and produce more non-fearful predators that may pose a serious threat to people, their pets and livestock. Thus, these predatory animals need to be hunted for human safety.
Predators are controlled by disease, starvation and other predators of which man is the superior one. Thus, the hunting and trapping of predators is necessary to maintain a balance for the general benefit of the human population.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

I always knew they were full of crap. Saw cougar tracks on Drummond island with my own eyes around that time. I also know the younger brother of the DNR biologist that worked at that time. He had all kinds of proof and tried to get them to tell the truth but they refused.

Neighbors have had livestock slaughtered with guts eaten. Friend who moved to Carson area has had their animals eaten, tracks confirm a big ol kitty was there. It's the end of winter. The predators are hungry. Happens every year as the winter wears to an end.

2 people in the last 100 years? Where did you hear that? There's been more than that in California alone in the last 50. Edit. 27 fatal attacks as of 2022. That is only the usa, and officially documented cases, so like was stated already, there's plenty that we're never found. Always have a gun in the woods. The sound alone can be enough to get them off your neck.

There is a YouTube video I just watched. A young bowhunter spent 12 days solo hunt in Washington for elk. He captured audio of a mountain lion killing its prey. It is pretty amazing to hear.

Those "2 people in the last 100 years" is the number thrown around by Washington wildlife officials for the State of Washington. No one really pays much attention to their statistics anyway; they're notorious for just pulling numbers out of the air.

There’s probably mountain lions in about every State in the lower 48. We don’t have a “breeding” population, but we do get the occasional Florida panther making a stroll through the State every now and then. I’m sure Alabama does as well.
