He has been going to wrestling practice 2 to 4 nights a week for a year and it is starting to payoff. Had a good night last night, the first match was against a kid from our town, but different school, that he has been matched against twice before this season. Lost those first two by points but got the quick pin in the first round last night. Second match of the night was a great match going into over time against a well trained opponent. He was absolutely pumped with the outcome of the night.

to me from this small sample it looks like he is winning on strength and endurance.
my old coach would have been on me in practice the next day about go offensive , go hard , don't wait for them to make a mistake , or get tired, some day they won't.
probably pair me off with someone bigger to force technique if your up for it he should try taking you off your feet or start in the down and try and pin you all you need to do is be stronger and resist force his technique
maybe I am wrong and his coach has a different read on it.
try not to break any furniture when he starts practicing his take downs on you in the living room
good work keep at it

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

You've got it about right GCP. The club he is in has multiple kids ranked nationally so he gets it handed to him quite often, and it shows with his lack of attack, his coach told him to pick a partner he can beat a couple nights a week to regain confidence but also take on the tougher guys to keep the results in focus.

Gonna have to pull up stakes and transfer to one of these wrestling factories in eastern Pa! Our little podunk high school has had a very competitive program last 5 or 6 years but cannot get by the Christian schools of eastern Pa, makes it tough going into a meet against a squad with more than 1 top 5 wrestler in the country at any given class.
life is good......

Our schools are getting pounded by the pay schools too. If you play sports at a high level they'll give your kid a "scholarship" but the gym The Boy trains at is the coach for the local one. It's a top tier club had something like 34 kids that either train fulltime or privately with him make state last year.
The Boy has a passion for the challenge and lives for training. Used to go out in the rain and do push ups and sit ups in the mud when he was 6 or 7. Said it was navy seal training lol

Congratulations on your sons wins. My son wrestled 2nd grade through college. In the beginning he always tried to get at least 100 matches in the off season. Try to hit as many open mat wrestling rooms as you can. If you can join the top tier wrestling club in your area do it. Try to wrestle better competition than your level, ( wrestle up a weight class) as much as you can it will make you better. Also have to have a good ( excellent coach) one who understands training, technique, nutrition, mental toughness, and strategy before, during and after the match. Its a very complex sport. Strong in body and strong in mind. Best of luck.

It's a fun sport, lots going on quick, I'm just not a huge fan of sitting in a gym for 5 hours to see 9 min of wrestling. School is more fun to watch cause I've coached a bunch of the boys in football so I have more to watch.

Old coach here, If not going to shoot, learn and run a front headlock series. On top spiral ride and control hands. On bottom stand up and get hand control. Hands, Hands, Hands! Control the hands control the match.

Bear Tracker, that has been his biggest issue is not getting control of the hands. Been that way for a long time. Just can't seem to get it through his teenage brain. Lol

Front headlock series is good advice. Just don't get elbow down too deep or he'll get dumped. Kolat has excellent videos on the front headlock. He was a master at it.
