Don Powell has announced this will be the last one. If you have not yet attended a Minktoberfest this is your last chance and believe you me, you don't want to miss it. If I know Don Powell, it will be the biggest and best one yet. It will be held October 3rd-6th.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Agreed!

I was fortunate enough to be one of the first to attend.

This is a PREMIER event that should be experienced! (I think you'll kick yourself if you miss this opportunity)

I put it on my calendar to attend.

Have to ask. Why is it the last one? Lack of volunteer help or ?

I don't want to speak for Don; but I can assure you that the VAST majority of the planning; and blood, sweat and tears (not to mention the EXPENSE!) of hosting such an event rests almost exclusively on Don and his family...it is a HUGE undertaking!

Are you planning to attend Nittany?

I'm seriously considering it but it's impossible for me to plan that far ahead and barely possible to take the amount of time necessary from work.

49er, I hope to attend, my reservation is in, I will be there providing my health issues don't keep me away. You should attend, you would have a great time. The time you need to take from work would be well worth it.

My understanding is there is very little, if any spots left! BUT you can bid to win one in the FTA Adventure Auction that is going on right now - bidding ends Sunday at 8PM est. Don was kind enough to donate one spot this year to the auction... Sad to hear this will be the last year, I've heard it is the thing not to miss.

Thank you all. The event was best described by Major Boddicker.. He said it truly is a Peer Learning Experience. The people that attend make it what it is. No one person is the Instructor and everyone can be the student if they have the willingness to keep learning. Everyone shares and it truly is what you make it. Minktoberfest started 15 years ago and everyone comes to "dig the well deeper". This sadly is the last because it is a year long endeavor lining up participants, planning and all else involved. Costs keep going up and I don't want to charge what I would need to just to break even. Plus, my body is feeling old and my wife deserves some attention. I hope we can make this last one even better than those in the past. Again, the people make this what it is. Caution though some people make it sound better than what we can possibly live up to if your expectations are too high. This is all about trapping everything from weasel to bobcat, coyote to beaver, muskrat to mountain lion, raccoon to mink, fisher to fox and everything else. Again thanks to all who have said a good word! The members have developed so many friendships, relationships and these will last a lifetime.

My favorite event at Minktoberfest was going out to some of Don's locations and trappers telling how they would set it up.

Jim, one of my favorite results was being invited on your line to see your methods. I don't remember how many mink you had that day- I think 7 but anyways I learned so much about truly being a pocket setter. Thank you for having been a big part of the last 15 years for all of us. Thank God we captured your story about the origin of the blue bucket set. I hope you can get feeling better to attend this last one.

Thanks for the kind words Don. As far as feeling better things are finally starting to head that way. I do feel better than I have for a long time. If I make it to Minktoberfest I plan on spending a lot of time around the camp fire shooting the breeze with other old timers.

I have heard nothing but excellent reviews from those who attended. Most want to go back every year. I wish it wasn’t half way across the World.

I am from the state of PA I have been a lifetime member of the the PA Trappers Assoc since`1982 I signed up as a Minktrapping.com member sometime around 2010 I occasionally look at the forums but have not been able to spend as much time as I would like to be l more active on Don Minkrapping.com site Pa is not known as a great mink trapping itte There are a fair number in PA but .To catch a high number of mink in PA you need to put in lots of sets and cover a very very large amount of territory The season is 6 or 7 weeks long and 2 of those weeks are during deer season in Don has proven that he is a knowledgeable hard working trapper And beyond his ability and skill set He has been as active as anyone i can think of as far as promoting the art and skills you need to know to be a good trapper I have spoken to him a few times at conventions and emailed him a time o two But I can not say I know him well But I think his dedication to the trapping lifestyle and his willingness to pass it on have earned him the right to be included in the PA Trappers Hall of Fame We are blessed to have him here in PA

So the event is not open to the public? You have to have a reservation to get in? How many allowed? Please elaborate. Thanks

Thanks Turtledale !

At first i was assuming it was an event for the family like a trappers day or rendezvous. Didn't realize.

Does sound like a good way to spend a weekend though !
