Also, you don’t need, or want to flesh rats real clean. Just get the big chunks of red meat off. Leave the saddle and some of the fat under front legs on. Should only take a minute or less to flesh a rat with the scraper in 2poor’s link.

I use a paint scraper works like a charm.

I grew up a poor kid and couldn't afford the fancy tools that the high dollar loggers get. I used a one handed scraper that all the trap supply places sell. Rats are by far the easiest thing to flesh and only take a few seconds.

Can just use a spoon too. It doesn't take much effort to scrape a rat. Just take off the big globs of fat. Don't go nuts. In rats scraping, most often times less is more.

Nimz, I’ll forgive you for the wire but the last thing you do before you hang them is to smooth that shoulder saddle back toward the muzzle:) It makes for a much nicer looking and feeling pelt when it’s dry. I know it’s near impossible for an old dog to teach an old dog new tricks…but it’s what I saw in your pic.

If you have a regular fleshing knife, that's the fastest way to do it. I don't fit muskrats on the beam. I lay em on the beam with the nose of the hide pointed away from me. Push the the stuff from the around the start of the saddle area off then flip it around to the nose at the tip of the beam and push off the bit of stuff at the end of the hide.

I use the same scraper for mink & marten.
