Possums like rotten, the nastier the better. You will still catch them occasionally on the sweet stuff but nasty works better IMO.

I have caught small possums in Duke DPs that did not even pull the trap out of wet ground.

If you don't have to worry about nontargets and you're trail trapping, any foothold set in the trail will catch ton of possums

I ran a coon and possum line for my first two years and I almost always caught coon in a DP and possums in a cage. IMO cage traps are your best bet for trapping possums.

While possums do get caught in DP's. it's my belief that their shorter legs (like skunks) make it tougher for them to reach the triggers than the intended target species of the raccoons. IMO possums and dry loose bait are responsible for empty tipped over DP's much of the time. Thinking if I get a empty tip over will throw down a cubby. Did not have many and thinking opossum just walk past golf balls because not curious and lack of smell. My skunks caught where in dirt hole sets using soul taker. Starting to see a pattern and will start using trailing lurer also.

A cage with a smorgasbord of baits and lures leading into the trap is likely the best but bulky like wooden cubbies. Since you are limited to 5" bodygrippers, they aren't great for coons but would be great for possums. If you could get a hold of some of the old plastic newspaper tubes, they fit a 120 or 155 sized body grip and stack together for ease of hauling and would be terrific for possums. I didn't catch why you wanted to catch possums? Most guys prefer to avoid them.
