I have a friend in his 70’s that has accumulated over the years many animal skins that he has tanned. He is now at the age where he needs to think about selling them.

He would welcome any ideas on how to dispose of these. I am sure he would like to sell most or all of these at the same time. He believes he has about an equal number of fox and coyotes skins. About a dozen each.

Does anybody have an estimate of what these might be worth? Does anyone have an idea where besides EBay where to get a value?

Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

Difficult to quote a value without more information and pictures.

Who did the tanning? How long ago? Quality of the fur? Any damage?

The Trap Shed here on Tman is an option. Muzzleloader events. Some raw fur dealers also handle dressed fur. Multiple options. I would think ebay would be low on the list of options, IMO

Dampen the leather really good along a small portion on the edge somwhere. Then give a gentle tug on the moistened leather and see if it pulls apart. If it does, then they are only wall hangers at best. Some old leather will have "acid-rot" and if so the skin really have no value.
Maybe try selling on Etsy.

Honestly, they’re worth what they bring on Ebay. Realistically, they have zero value. But there may be a crafter or two out there that may be willing to take a chance on them.

They may be of interest to fly tyers. Do some research on fly fishing and tying forums.

I sold some tanned fur at the VTA sale and got pretty good prices for it. A lot better than put up fur.

My boy sold basically anything he has every year at gun shows. Knife and jewelry makers love to display their creations on fur or deer hides and ppl walking about always have cash on hand.

This was over 10 years ago but I know he got $100 for any coyote and 50+ for any coon. The vast majority of that was way late season stuff so I wont say rubbed, but a lot of the slightly springy stuff turned out great and sold fast.

Wholesale to antique shop, I see tanned fox priced at 60-80.00 in antique shops. I have whole saled some for 40.00 to them. Then they double price for retail.
