One of our Grandsons is in 5th grade, which is middle school here. The 3rd semester honor roll has 25 students on High Distinction! An amazing group of kids that are very competitive. A town of 2600 ppl.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Teachers in small towns and little rural schools are a cut above. My first 3 semesters at college were mostly review for me, and I often set the curve most tests. My classmates thought I was smart but I knew full well that my math and science teachers were the cause.

A town of 2600 ppl. That's amazing !! BUT has the school district gone to " everyone is special" Honor roll meant something 20 years ago. Now it can be you have achieved a certain level but the level has been lowered. BIG debate across the academic world last few years. Can't let tyrone or Juan feel bad because the smart kids get to walk across the stage on awards night. I saw this last year at my grand daughters 5th grade graduation. Sickening.... Every student got some kind of award. Class participation is an award. I ask one of the senior teachers what that meant. She said they gave it to them if they didn't fall asleep more than 2 days a week .... Common sense is a dying talent !!!!!

In my town its about 1250 total. Hasn't changed much since we moved here in 1962.
Last year we only had 32 kids graduate. Usually 55-65 at times.
The board has tried to pass a school bond millage 3 times. Always goes down.
If it ever passes, its for 21 years. The town is about 50% retirees locally. Limited income.
